Off to my first stay away camp in week, and fretting over what I should be taking for me and my boy.

I've got all the obvious bits down (tack, feed, hay, riding gear), but what should I be taking in terms of boots etc.? It'll be our first time XC together, and my first time going in a long time (and on something with skinny TB legs). I've got tendon boots and brushing boots for him, do I need these 'event boots' I keep seeing advertised everywhere? Over reach boots, or not?

Any other tips and hints would be much appreciated! I'm staying in the living of a lorry, and a well-seasoned camper thanks to OH playing at festivals every summer.

I'd say you'd be just fine in tendon/brushing boots for your first time, if you decide to take XC/eventing up more seriously/regularly it might be worth investing in event/xc boots but a lot of people only ever use brushing/tendon boots. I did my first event season and PC camp in brushing boots with no problems at all. I would say to take some overreach boots, having had a horse that got an overreach injury XC I would always wear them now... But again, many people go without and they're perfectly fine! The biggest tip is just to have fun and enjoy it! I loved doing camp, it was great fun and the intensive lessons definitely made a difference. Hope you have a fab time :)

I think you'll be fine with tendons to jump XC your first time, at least that's what I'm planning on doing until we've been a few times and have decided it's definitely what I want to do. Plus looking at the cost of 4 boots being £100-145 I might need to save!
