Does anyone take thier dog camping??

How do you cope wit the logistics?

I'm helping a friend at horsecamp next week and I've got to take Jack with me.

I've only got a small tent (3 man but with my back I normally use an airbed so takes up the tent) so was planning on putting his bed in the front section with him on a 15ft tether just in case he gets under the material (only a just in case but would hate for him to wander off). Does that sound ok?

Any other tips appriciated

Sounds like you will have a loverly time, have fun!

What happens if he gets out and takes the tent with him because of the tether? Have you got a crate? Either a metal or fabric one? Might be safer, I'd worry about him getting tangled.

Hope you have a good time.

Can't really help other than that because I camp in a caravan and put up the orange barrier fencing (like you get on building sites) and they run around in that.

minnie used to excape out of our tent, off she went wondering in and out of Italians tents, talking away to them and helping herself to any food!! didnt go down well - we ended up with a crate at night.

He's never been in a crate (and can't afford to buy one)

...He's generally quiet at night and can see him being too pooped to go wandering anyway.

He's....how shall I put it....a laid back dog lol so walking round all day at camp is going to be a shock to the system. Tether and 15ft rope is more a precaution as don't want him getting loose outside with horses etc about...half thought about locking him in a spare stable but TBH he'll be better near me.

I take my 3 dogs camping regulary. The older two dont need to be restrained at night and the puppy goes in her crate. I find the 15ft tethers are too long and tent to just use regular leads to tether them when I need to, otherwise they get tangled up in the tent and each other!
