My TB mare seems to be developing sarcoids on her face. They are very small just now but my older pony got them very badly a few years ago and so I am scared these will turn out to be the same. Has anyone got any advice about treatment? Alternative therapies a consideration. Thanks!

Has your vet looked at them?

There was an interesting post about this (camrosa) the other day - with quite a few posters saying they wouldn't use it.

Will try and find if for you.

A friend of mine's horse had some sarcoids on her grey's chest. She used Camrosa on the sarcoid & a few inches around it. The sarcoid eventually cleared leaving a little scar. I have no idea why it worked & I don't know any scientific reasons but it did work although it took many months. Would it have cleared anyway in that time? I don't know. Good Luck with your problem.

Please please please don’t use Cammarosa, im sure others will list why! Contact your vet, confirm it’s def sarcoids then ask them to contact Prof Knottenbelt at liverpool vet school who will look at the sample and make up a concoction to remove it, it will be toxic and can only be applied by a vet – wearing thick gloves but he has a fantastic success rate. Don’t leave it as if they get too big/spread then the efficacy is reduced.

Yes, we got the liverpool cream for my pony to get rid of his and although it gave a pretty good result it was very painful for him and made the area much worse and very sore before it healed. My mares are so much smaller and was hoping to find a gentler method, perhaps homeopathic, to see if this might work first?

I had my horses (numerous) sarcoids successfully treated by Derek Knottenbelt. they had become numerous because I just used a regular vet (did all animals) and he was really not experienced enough to deal with them properly. My advice would be to get a GOOD, EXPERIENCED vet, preferably a specialist equine vet, who is used to dealing with the Liverpool cream.
Good luck.

A combination of Thuja cream and pills worked for me a few years ago. It was totally painless (from everyones point of view!) and they fell off within a couple of weeks. They never came back.

i used the blood root cream on mine with disaterous effects then used the liverpool cream my mare was in pain and had to have bute i was hoping that would be the last of it but it didnt get rid of them just shurnk 1 of them grrr so i am going to start using the thuja cream and pills i think
