Can 17 year old compete on 14.2 horse?

We're looking at buying my petite 14 yr old daughter a new horse. Current horse is much too much horse for her. Have been offered a 14.2 Connie to try but my daughter's friend says she won't be able to compete in British Show Jumping on a 14.2 horse / pony after she turns 16 or 17. Is this correct? I don't want to have to go through horse shopping again in a year or so. Thanks.

We have a Connie who was previously competed by an adult BS and BE so your daughter will be fine

Adults can absolutely jump BS on ponies, juniors have to jump ponies in junior sections but can ride horses in adult sections depending on membership.

As long as she’s happy to change up to senior when the time comes, she’ll be fine.

I think they may be referring to the striding the jumps are set out for are more ideal for larger horses, perhaps a question for your instructor who knows your daughters ambitions and could come to a viewing? Connies can be great jumpers and hard breed though hence their popularity

You can re register the pony as a horse to be able to jump seniors but there are limitations on this. rulebook should be of help!

Connies can do a range of different things and many are ridden by adults. If she only ever will want to show jump maybe you’d be better with a 15.2 horse however a 14.2 connie could do M&m and plaited working hunter as well as show jump. There are no age restrictions on M&M classes

Yes an adult can jump a pony BS but jumps with adults on horses. The pony then can’t be re-registered as a pony so can’t do junior classes again.
