Can a 6yo be classed as an 'alrounder?'

Ive been looking at Sec D 6yo's (as a rought guide to valuing mine) and so many are advertised as 'allrounders'

Surely @ 6yo its still too young to be classed as that?

(Or am i just being a numpty?)

Doesn't that just mean it does a bit of everything? I would think it hacks, jumps and does dressage. Seems a fair description to me.

I have a 6 year old that I have done BSJA on, ODEs, hunted, unaffiliated dressage. I would class him as an allrounder, even at 6.

Well, as a six year old mine had already won a bit of money bsja and gone round a PN with me. He was still pretty green though. Got him at four, not done anything, and vet advised we let him grow into himself for a couple of years before we did much, so he only really started competing at six.

But maybe the ad is for its potential as an allrounder if its not there yet?

Well I suppose it is up to the prospective purchaser to ask as to what level a horse has done all the stuff! It may well be local, but it has still done a bit of everything.

I would say mine is an allrounder. He has hunted (wouldnt recommend it again though

) Won and placed at Unaff ODE's and competing at PN, won Sjing and showing and placed DR. Is good to hack etc and can leave for a week, get back on and not be bucked off

So would say yes they can be an allrounder?!!

It they have done bit of everything then yes.

My 4 year old hacks out alone/company, does showing and started dressage.

I may try a little hunting this year and will start SJ and XC next year if all goes to plan. By 6, I would expect him to do a bit of everything and be classed as a true Master Jack of all Trades.

I think plenty of 6 year olds have done a bit of everything, even if they've not started their ridden education until they were four, however they may still be a little green. What about looking for a schoolmaster type?

Bodey (the one in my sig) is 5 and he is an all-rounder. Been it, done it at local level. So yes i think a 6 year old can be an all- rounder!

I kinda get what you mean. Especially with Sec D's... they do take a lot longer to mature than other horses I find. Mine certainly did!

Oh yes - depends on the mentality of the horse. My 5 yr old has hunted, team chased and is currently competing at pre-novice eventing. Hes good to hack etc. i would class him as an allrounder would trust anyone to sit on him and get a tune...

Tommy is 5 and has done abit of everything , showjumping, working hunter, showing, pony games, dressage, hacking and even abit of barrel racing

I would class him as an all rounder .
