Can a horse with a permanent tracheotomy showjump?

Hi everyone,
I am considering re-homing a horse who has had a permanent tracheotomy and I have no experience of what this involves so I have some questions that I hope some people can help with?
1. How does this effect the horse vocals, neighs, whinneys etc?
2. What care and maintenance is needed?
3. Can the horse still showjump? Is there anything the horse cannot do?
4. Is is likely to cause issues in the future?
5. Does the hole ever close up or does it stay open?

It should have a cover or plug for the hole when you get it. You are unlikely to ever need to uncover it in general riding.
Not sure about SJ but believe it would not be allowed to compete at BE.
Oh yes you cannot swim them either,I know its obvious but has been done with catastrophic consequences.

My friend used to hunt one. It was 25 years ago so not sure what rules there are now tho

No ! a tracheotomy is a hole in the neck to allow air to enter the lungs bypassing the nose and skull.

The horse may grunt but that is about it normally. A hobday or tied back will also be fairly silent.
The hole needs to be kept clean
The whole idea of the op is to enable the horse to perform better at speed. Normally the op follows failed hobdaying or tie backs.
The horse would not be able to swim, nor would it want to fall into water with the hole open.
The one I had lived to a good age
the hole stays open because there is a metal ring holding it open.

It is not seen that often now, Party Politics ran in the National with a trach. I can remember failing to stop a point to pointer reaching the river Severn whilst loose, that drowned.
