Having just got a new horse I haven't had the opportunity to get him fitted for a new saddle, so had to 'borrow' mum's treeless. Is it allowed to compete in it, even though it has a tan pad (can't remember proper name for it)?

BD rules states the saddle must be of "English or Continental Style" so if the competition is being run under BD rules you may not be allowed. I would check with the organisers.

If it looks more like this model:

Then you wont be allowed to compete in it.
However if it's more like this:

Then you can compete in it, since it's an English style saddle.

Echo above.

Some you can tell because the dont have the channel on the back but apart from that they as long as they look the same.

hey i ride treeless and as far as i know the 'solution' saddle is the only BHS approved treeless saddle on the market, however they don't seem to fussy about tack on intro dressage i'd just ring up the venue and ask :)

The Solution saddles are allowed under FEI rules for use in competition - not "approved" as such by any Body.

In terms of unaffiliated competition, I'd just speak to the organisers if your saddle is anything other than Solution.

I have used a Barefoot London (dressage style) saddle for dressage and no-one said anything. It says in the Torsion leaflet that it is approved for British Dressage, and although that is a different make it is very similar to the Barefoot.

Frankly, when you are sitting in the saddle it is very hard to see whether or not it is treeless or not.

But don't take my word for it, you need to check the rules!

I too use a barefoot London saddle, and have used it for RC dressage at eventing, I did check it was ok before I rode in it, and I don't see why anyone should have a problem. My saddle does not look that odd if I am sat on it :)
