This is probably a silly question but one person i know has said this wouldn't affect my boy!!!!

I have just come back from a weekend away and my horse is kept in an american barn style stabling, while i was away my yard owner made a new door for one of his horses stables out of metal and has been grinding metal and welding about 6-8 foot away from my horses stable door.

Surely if our eyesight can be affected by a welding flash so can a horses? (not to mention the risk of grinding metal with sparks everywhere next to straw bales!!!!!!)

I'm sorry if you feel i'm being a bit thick but i want to be sure before i complain.

Many Thanks for any replies.

No doubt at all. The answer is yes, a welding arc will burn the retina just like it does ours. The light is too bright for a mammal eye to look at safely.

No doubt at all, there is a lot of ultraviolet light in a welding flash, this causes arc eye. As for grinders, they are incredibly good for setting things alight.
