Just been trawling thru the BS (

) rulebook & can't seem to find an answer...

Adrian might be off sick for a while & there's a chance that I might get a youngster on loan, but...it's only 14.1. Not a prob for me cos I'm 5 ft 1 & 8 st. Would only be wanting to potter about on a ticket, but not sure if I can do it?

You don't have to reg to join in on a ticket tho? Can I just turn up, get a ticket & get on with it without anyone chasing me round the ring with a measuring stick...??

Altho that prob wouldn't even be my most embarrassing happening in the ring...

(Can't get used to BS... just sounds bad & wrong...)

You can but some show centres are really arsey about you doing it

I have a14.2hh (just) who I jumped as a horse and he was sent home from a couple of venues for being "too small" even when affil as a horse. The fact is they don't really like you doing it, and some places are very off with it, its not really worth the hassle IMO as its no fun not being allowed to compete even though your well within your rights too (and yes, on getting home fuming I did complain to the BSJA)

i think he musnt of been registerd as a pony in the last 12months as long as he hasnt then i think you can register him as a horse but remember all the distances will be horse ones so unless hes long striding he may struggle

I think this must just be where you live as in my area there are a few ponies competing in adult classes and they have never been sent home. That is really sad that has been done to you - have you contacted the BS regarding this?

Okaaaayy, might be Trailblazers for us then... Never mind... we can still go up to 1 m 05 which will prob be plenty.

Yes, long-striding pony. So many ifs, buts & maybes at this stage so might not even happen. I just wanted to have a heads-up in case it does.

Ours is possibly 14.3, but jumped as a pony and wasn't one of the biggest. She came a handy 4th in a 1.15m this evening and had no difficulty with the distances - she's a powerhouse

Now registered as a horse, she is ALWAYS the smallest in the line-up.

We love her and she isn't for sale so if they ban us for being too small...

Trailblazers don't allow under 14.3 in the adult/horse comps.

Most Trailblazers classes are held within an open show jumping class - this is how it is done around here. So you can jump in the 'trailblazers' class - because it isn't really trailblazers - you just can't qualify for the second round.

BUT..... there is nothing stopping you jumping her in senior BS

Hi,

Yes we did complain, Royal L. Centre in Sussex are the worst for it! (or the Royal Displeasure as we like to call them) I've also had problems at Merrist Wood and Sands Farm (was at the intro show there on sunday last week and someone on a 14.2hh wasn't allowed to even jump on a ticket!). Problem is our pony normally wins, he can turn much quicker than the horses, so I think it puts peoples backs up a bit. It's a shame though as at the time he was affil as a horse he really wasn't a childs ride. He's now a couple of years older and more mellow and no longer affil as a horse, he's gone to a junior now who is gelling with him with the view to BSJA Juniors in the spring.

I have jumped my 14hh in senior classes & she is registered as a grade c. At Patchetts she jumped clear in the first round & I chose not to continue to the jump off so put my hand up & retired. The ring steward called me over when I came out & asked me how big she was, I clearly heard the judge on the radio saying that I shouldn't really have been jumping there, but as I had retired she would let it go. How generous of her, I explained that she was registered as a horse, & was really peed off that the flipping judge didn't know the rules, thought I left all that behind in unafil!! I was so cross I took her registration card to the organiser where he confirmed that I was quite entitled to be there, so yes, it does happen. I am shocked that they wouldn't let someone jump. Have to say Wales & West were great, no problems at all.
