Can any breeders lend some advice?

The most important thing about breeding dogs is to make sure you have a good home lined up, and a deposit paid, for at least eight puppies before the bitch is even mated.

I'd say just dont do it.......

Make sure you have enough money for a good stud dog that is healthy & not closely related to the bitch, a sizeable amount of money available (not relying on the sale of pups to pay for it as they may all die) if the bitch needs a c section instead of a natural birth. And worse of all be emotionally prepared to lose their bitch should the very worse occur. All sound way out but all are possible.

Have a bitch that is a good example of her breed. Have all required health tests done - can be found on KC or breed club websites. Find a dog that compliments the bitch and has all good test results & buy a copy of this book; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Bitch-J-M-Evans/dp/1860540236

I would also suggest they have a look around a rescue kennels before thinking of breeding!!! But that's harsh I know!

I despair that anyone would consider breeding or buying a puppy when thousands of dogs are PTS in uk pounds every year for lack of a home. Always rescue, never buy from a breeder or god forbid breed yourself. Even if you want a pedigree just google the breed and rescue to find a specific rescue group for that breed.
