I also think that there is no such thing as a bombproof horse.
Bombproof and schoolmaster are different things though! My parents got me an anglo arab (17 I think) and I had him for the summer (loan only).
He wasn't 100% (liked a little jog and liked to go fast) but never bucked, reared, bolted. Showed me how to jump and brought my confidence on no end. that's a schoolmaster in my eyes as anyone could have got on him - he seemed to know someone who was novice to someone who wasn't!
I think it also depends on the definition of bombproof! I would consider my pony to be a bombproof hacking pony, because for me she is, she's safe and fun, yet she would scare a novice.
i think its stupid (well that might be a little harsh!) to say a horse is completely bombproof, it can be safe but all horses no matter how much schooling they have had have a natural reaction to run away from danger so if they think something is dangerous they are going to run! xx
See I think Ty could be a schoolmaster once he's trained as once he knows his job he's pretty reliable. He's also the most unspooky horse I've ever ridden (seriously and he's a TB). They'll always be that 1% chance that he'll wind himself up into a stuper though or wake up and decide that today is tank off with mummy day! x
No, not every horse has the temperament to be bombproof OR a schoolmaster. Some are too hot, some have bad habits like being spooky, rearing, bucking etc that can't always be trained out - some will always be nervous of certain things etc.
Just like not every person can make a calm and proficient carer, not every horse can either!
Well I put No. I just think that some horses always have that spark which means that they would never be completely safe for a beginner/novice just because they wouldnt feel safe on them. Of course it always depends on your definition of Bombproof, I believe we all have slightly different ideas of what Bombproof means.
