pony-=- when working on flat works absolutely stunning on the left rein walk trot canter in an outline , but right rein is a different matter lol. you ask her to trot and is so tense then ask her to trot will leap into canter on wrong leg, still leapin around in this canter, wonder what advice you would have , would you pull her back relax her or drive her foward?? thank you

Hi

Have you tried doing any lunge work with her? This may help with getting her moving forward in a relaxed manner without the rider at first. It maybe that you will need to really take her back to the beginning and just work at walk and trot for some time (and quite a few sessions) before asking her to canter. And if this worked I would be inclined to then introduce side reins at a later date but this must be done slowly and not have the reins over tight as you want to keep her nice and relaxed at all times.

If you've tried lunge then I can't think of what else to suggest but I'm sure more knowledgable people on here will point you in the right direction

I would check teeth and back, and if they are ok would start with canter from 10m circles to see if that encourages her to use the correct leg. I would also concentrate on getting the trot balanced before moving to canter on this rein

Check her teeth and back - also are you straight (back, hips etc not sexual preference!!!

)? My horse was terrible on the left rein and after much money was spent on investigating her we discovered that my hips were wonky

I would recomend getting her back checked too, particularly her neck. My mare was very stiff on the right rein, it turned out to be a problem with the vertebra behind her poll, once this was sorted out she began to build up her muscle correctly and works well on both legs now. We had chiropractery and accupuncture done by our vet.

You don't mention her age, has she always done this or has she just started suddenly? We had similar problem with our young Welsh Cob but after a few weeks lunging (ensuring equal work on both rein) she improved.

I had a problem with my horse on the right rein, wouldn't bend, very tense etc. thought it was his back so had that checked out a couple of times, but problem still there. Had the dentist out the other week and turns out his teeth were causing the problem. I didn't think it was his teeth as I'd only had them checked 6 months ago, but turns out the previous dentist I had didn't do a very good job. So def have teeth checked!
