Based bucks/beds/northants area? Private sales are proving unfruitful and I feel like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall... why do people lie?!

I'm not after anything particularly rare, so wondered if a local dealer might have something worth looking at.

Any tips, recommendations (people to visit or people to avoid!) would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! x

Thanks for the recommendation Rach, unfortunately he's over 2.5 hours away from us. Getting sick of travelling sometimes 3 hours one way to look at horses... there must be something closer to home!

Ho about John Whinnett, he is in the Midlands. I know a few people who have bought lovely horses from him and he seems fair.

David White from Irish Horse Imports if you're looking for something green and unproven. He has a good eye for a nice horse. Lots of pros buy their projects from him.

I to would recommend Adam has some lovely horses for sale. Also Sally Lister at Bracken Spa Stud has some very nice youngest for sale.

Another reccommendation for John Whinnett from me. It's very quick to get down to his yard from MK. As always with dealers keep your eyes open, ask lots of questions and don't get carried away. He has been straightforward with me.

Dave White- Irish imports, but you have to have an open eye and mind, but a good starting point. Have hear good things about John Whinnet.

How about Rumer Stud- go on her website, she mostly buys in horses to go into SJ but you can get a green one and turn to just about anything. We have had 2 from Caron :-)

John Whinnet is brilliant. Very genuine, and helpful.
We have a yard of John horses And david white "specials". Though as above, David's horses come greener than the grass on which they have often not been fed and in my experience whether it has apparently been broken or not makes little difference ! ;)

However some very nice horses in the scruffy mix; David doesn't lie outright in my opinion but he isn't being cagey if he says he isn't sure on a history, he probably has no idea!

Be very careful. I thought I was. Bought a pony from John Whinnett (showjumper) - near Milton Keynes He sold it with - supposedly - a 28 day warranty. Went lame last weekend. Taken today to Rossdales and diagnosed chronic arthritis in one back hock - must have been present when sold as radiographic changes present. Response from John - sue me. Daughter devastated - me just plain angry. At least private sellars less experienced!!

Hi KSpice - did you get this sorted? Seems very concerning to me. Really hope that he took the horse back and your daughter has a way out. xx

Original poster, what are you looking for - discipline, age, budget...? (Looking at these recommendations i think we've just assumed you're looking for a jumping horse!)

little_flea I'm looking for a dressage horse and easy hack. No jumpy jumpy for me these days :) Most of the dealers I come across only seem to deal in jumpers.

I know of a lovely chap, super hack and fantastic dressage potential (but only done a few unaffiliated shows) with super paces, lovely attitude to his work - he is 9, and has also jumped up to Foxhunter. He is not cheap though (£10K mark) but if you want details feel free to PM me. Otherwise I think there will be loads of people here who can recommend good dressage dealers – what sort of level and budget are we talking about?

Unortunately although he sounds good initially - I've a budget of around £4k to find something that is sensible, hacks, and has dressage ability. Am only looking for a decent unaffiliated exposure at Prelim/Novice, doesn't need to have BD record although that would be nice! Not bothered about age - would prefer something around 10 so it's kind of seen the world already if that makes sense!

That certainly sounds like it should be do-able. I can't think of a good dealer off hand but I am sure there must be loads of these types of horses around - hopefully someone here will be able to suggest someone. Good luck! :)

I would urge you to sue the begger ... If you have a 28 day warrenty and a verterinary statement (I assume this was in the 28 day period) then it will be easy peasy to get a refund IMO. Outside the 28 days you still stand a good chance.

The other one reasonably local is dale sports horses, they are on Facebook a few friends have had horses from them and they seem to be as described and nice types!

I was about the suggest them - a lot of theirs are pretty green over from Ireland but they seem decently priced as long as (like with anything) you go with your eyes open they seem to have some pretty decent horses through their hands.

Was mbequestrian (member on here) from Bucks area? I got mine from him/them. Always had nice horses on their website but website doesn't seem to be operational now. Have they (think it was Mark & Ben?)stopped dealing horses? They don't seen to have posted for a while either:-/

I got my jumping horse from them a few years ago too - unfortunately Ben got in big trouble. Don't want to say too much as don't want to get into trouble on here, but safe to say there is a good reason mbequestrian no longer exists

6yo 16hh dressage mare from approved stallion. She is in Holland but the Dutch like them bigger so bargain price of only £5000. Can get video if you would like but would have to be bought straight from Holland at this price. PM if you would like more details?

We bought a horse via John Whinnet's yard in December last year. Despite passing a Five Stage Vetting, went lame in February and then had intermittent lameness until diagnosed with navicular in August. I now have a devastated daughter and a very expensive lawn mower.
