Teddy, our 1yr 3month old BT has started weeing in the house , he hasnt been nuetured and I was wondering if this weeing is more scent marking as its dark yellow and just a spinkle , anybody else had this problem ? , any advice would be great

Just to add , up till now he has never wee'd in the house even as a pup

Sounds a bit like scent marking - but I would get it checked out with a vet to be on the safe side. Then if it is...it's a tricky one to break!

Hi, no specific answers I am afraid as my BT (1yr 1m unneutered) also does it occassionaly. I did speak to the vet about it and wether it was scenting and if it would be best to be neutered. She said if I could leave neutering til 2yrs then that would be better as she has done research on it and if neutering is done before all the male hormones have got established then you could end up with an aggressive dog simply because it is unbalanced hormone wise and defending itself! On the peeing side mine tends to do it on washing or my daughters nappies which can be a response to ammonia smell but having said that he does sometimes wee on other things. Vets advice to me was to make sure he couldnt get to the things he tends to wee on and deal with it as a behavioural issue with discipline but dont really know how to do that!!!! She said it wasnt really scenting!

But my advice would be to take him to the vet, just in case he has a bladder infection or something else going on. You really need to rule out any health issues first, before assuming hes sent marking.

Maybe something has changed at home to make him feel unsettled to make him sent mark in the first place?

Agree with annieann regarding getting any physical things checked out first. There are some good people about who can help if it's a behavioural issue. They should look at the whole picture. Try to steer clear of anybody that offers online consultations as they can't possibly see what's going on in the home environment!! Take a look at www.intodogs.org. One their people will probably be able to help if it is a behavioural issue.

Hope you get things sorted. Good luck
