can anyone tell me; what are the horse/pony height and rider age/height/weight(?) restrictions with regards to show jumping and showing?

i am 5'10" and 28 yrs old, can i ride a 14.2hh in any shows? what is the limit? we've got a great pony with no child rider and he needs to be out there! i look a little big on him, but i've seen worse i'm sure! (chestnut in pics below)

(my OH has just made a comment that i may need to lose weight first

) i am a little over 9 stone, so he can certainly carry my weight

so i could ride him against my own age group but not against kids? that would make sense, afterall stroller was a pony wasn't he? how about showing?

i understand that i could take him to locals and prob would do local jumping, but he has been bred to show and his brothers and sisters qualify for HOYS, that's ultimately the plan for him too!
there seems to be a drought of child jockeys around our area and i wondered how far I could ride him before we would have to find him a smaller/younger rider, with the idea of getting him 'out there' in the meantime...

i have gone brain dead on his exact breeding, will post when it comes to me

right.. he is out of a show pony mare and by a thoroughbred stallion.

he has done show hunter pony classes, before he had his problems that resulted in him coming to me...

So, my question is.. can i ride him in show hunter classes?

You can do some unaffiliated classes, but you are too old to do show hunter classes. You can do small hack classes (difficult to see beneath the hair as to whether he is hack like enough) but he is really too small at 14.2 to do small riding horse classes. Have you had him measured?

In addition, the splits for SHP/WHP classes are 14hh and 15hh, so he is mid height for these classes. The splits for show ponies are 14.2, but I would not have thought he was fine enough for SP classes. But in any case, you are too old for these classes as well! Did he do the 14hh SHP or the 15hh SHP?

There is a society specifically for adults who ride ponies, but I can't remember the name of it.

i'm not sure if it was the 14 or 15hh class.
i think he was measured at 14.2, i could be wrong though. would it make the difference if i stretched him to be 14.3??

I think you need to put a stick on him and see what he measures. Then take off about 1" from that (shoes and general squashing from other competitor's horses) and that will be the height he will look in the ring. Your only path is probably hack if you want to go down any sort of affiliated showing route. Or find a younger rider!
