It says "dogs and bitches need not be registered with the Kennel Club" - does that mean I can enter Dax (who looks like a pedigree but isn't registered) in that first lot of pedigree classes?

Yes I am mad but I'm planning on going to the show anyway and for the sake of a quid I figured it'd be a laugh. :p What class should I pick?

I know it's a bit of a daft question but I just wouldn't want to create bad feeling by taking a dog that looks like a pedigree into the novelty classes if they are just meant to be for mongrels.

I don't need a special show lead or outfit or anything do I?! She has a nice leather collar and lead but it's 1" thick, not like the skinny show slips.

Is it a fun show? Sorry can't open the schedule on my phone, if it is her normal collar and lead will be fine although you will probably find you'll get some trophy hunter types there who take it all to seriously
Loco won best of breed at a open show in a purple ancol slip lead lol lol I've been told the comments said behind my back about that but people like that aren't worth the notice

Ooh might see if I can get a day off and come to that :) You don't need any special equipment but be warned that the class will probably be won by an experienced exhibitor with their KC reg dog! Companion shows seem to attract a large number of pothunters.

There's the list if you can see it, there are novelty classes so I could always stick with those, less likely to be full of pothunters, I was just worried I'd be labelled as one for entering a dog that looks like a pedigree! :p

MM, you are welcome to come and point and laugh. :D For the sake of a quid a class I think it will be a good experience for her, she's sloooowly getting steadier at every event we go to.

I have a black rope slip lead or a leather half-check and long leather lead (from Equus Leather, it's gorgeous!) so as long as I don't have to wear anything poncy we're all set. Might have to teach her to stand properly though. :o

Yes you can enter pedigree classes even if shes not registered at this type of show. Do class 3 and then any of the novelty ones you fancy. I used to show in proper show lead at this type of show but only as a training ground for flora when she was young, expect to see people properly stacking their dogs and taking it seriously...they arent necessarily pot hunters though.

You could go in AV Pastoral/Working, or AV Open. Will she still be under 18 months cos AV Junior is another. You should perhaps get her used to someone running their hands over her, and also teach her to show her teeth, depending on how seriously the judge takes it. The judge actually lives just up the road from me, breeds Maremma sheepdogs.

I bet there are some pot hunters Vizzy, there usually seem to be ime. I judged a show yonks ago, when they were known as exemption shows, there was a yorkie on its velvet box etc, and when I only gave it a 3rd the disgruntled owner informed me it had 2 reserve CCs, wtf was it doing at an exemption show then.:p

Thanks for that Vizzy and MM, I think I will do the pastoral/working and the novelty prettiest bitch class then, covers all bases. :) She's 19 months this Sunday so will be too old for the junior.

She will happily show teeth but will probably go all wriggly and daft if the judge tries to run her hands over, will have to do some practising at standing nicely and not rolling over for belly rubs. :o

Any excuse to show off sexy new collar...

I had to google Maremma sheepdogs, I hope she doesn't know too much about sibes 'cos she's nearly 2" too tall and way longer in the leg than a show type. :o

Ah yes, definately a few you are right...I just didnt want BC to be under the impression that everyone stacking their dog correctly and in possession of a show lead was pot hunting. Companion shows are a valuable training ground for young dogs...and new handlers! :D

Ooooh, where did you get the leather half check? I've planning to get a nice one for Loki to replace his nylon-type one. His normal buckle collar is never used anymore as it doesn't seem to sit as comfortably on his neck as a half check does :o

BUT ANYWAY! Back on topic. I think you should do class 3, prettiest bitch, and best 6 legs! :D And don't forget to take your camera and share the pics :D

Point taken Vizzy, and you are right, when I did her one and only show with Evie when she was a pup I did stack her properly, even if she hadn't ever done it before and kept trying to move her leg back again.:p

Have you seen my legs?! :p

It's from Equus Leather, the crappy light in the photo doesn't do it justice, they're amazing quality. Just be careful with the sizing though, the first one I received was miles too big, in the end I sent over her existing nylon one and they made it up to match. :) Lovely matching long leather lead too, with a ring in the handle so I can tether up the hellbeast with it. :p

It's not for ages yet, I just wanted to be sure before I book a whole Saturday off work. I would usually be going with the 'oss but no transport again this year. :(

You can't wuss out on the 6 best legs! I'm sure you have fabulous legs, but even if they were the size of an 800 year old oak tree (which methinks they are not, going on a certain photo in a newspaper :p) you're only 33.3r% of the equation! Just think how despondent Dax will be if you don't enter HER legs! :p:D

I'm now going to browse Equus Leather and try to convince myself I have enough spare cash this month for such essential purchases as new collars and leads (which I don't, not after I entered the magical Aladdin's Cave pet shop earlier this week. I only went in for a new food bowl!!)

To be fair her legs are pretty duff as well, I've no idea about this showing lark but from what I've seen to compare her with her back legs are as straight as a post! :p

I will have to get the shorts out and get some colour on mine pronto. :D

I totally didn't have the money to spare but they are beauuuuutiful. :o I haven't had new clothes in a year, in that time she's had two harnesses and two collar sets.
