Hi, Yesterday I sold my little truck (woohoo) so now looking for a new one. Havent got loads to spend, probably around £7000 but can maybe find a bit more. I have looked on here and a few other sites but thought it may be worth asking if anyone has seen any good adverts. I would like a 7.5ton, def room for 3 big horses (maybe partitioned for 4 if no tack locker or area) nice full living which is not on a really old truck! Tack locker (maybe) skirt lockers def and for it to be reliable. I think thats it. Any adverts or trucks spring to mind? Thanks loads, Vicki x

Should of said im in Berkshire!

I should of said they arnt heavy horses, all mine are weedy TBs but dont want a truck you can just fit 15.2s in. Its also doubtfull I would ever want to take 3 at once but dont want a 2 horse truck as want extra space in the back when Im out and about

Well done for selling your wagon but I have to say I dont think you will get everything you want for your budget unless you go for an older one Im afraid, even then the nice coachbuilds with full decent living are expensive, as in 10k plus for an old one and I think weight will be a problem. Friends lovely coachbuild weighs 6.1t unladen. It is stalled for 3 has full living etc etc but she could only carry 2 decent sized horses in it with full water tanks, people, tack etc. Sorry to be negative.

You will find most 7.5 ton boxes are partitioned for 3 ponies/2 horses however if you have anything more than the most basic living you will not have the payload to carry any more than 2 horses with all your tack, driver, groom etc & remain within weight.

You possibly will have more chance if the box is purpose built rather than a conversion as conversions are invariably heavier. Be very careful about buying any lorry without a weight certificate. There are loads out there that either have a very low payload & some that weight 7.5 tons before you have put anything in it. Police & VOSA are getting hotter on stopping & weighing horseboxes so you need to be within wieght.

I'm currently selling my 7.5 tonne with living for just under £7K. Its old (1984), but has had a quiet life and only done 80K miles. Its been a good runner for me for the lats 5 years.

Its stalled for 3 but I have a cleaveland bay (who likes his room) and he has the partition in the centre. It would definately take 3 ponies, but you'd have to judge for yourself if it was big enough for yours.

Its not advertised anywhere at the mo becasue I have just been on holiday, but PM me if you want any more info. BTW I'm only selling because I don't use it enough, and we need a 4x4 for the smallholding, so I'm gonna swap to a trailer.

I agree that possibly being a wee bit ambitious on what you want for the money. And weight. We have just got what I think is rather a good deal on an L reg merc (less than your budget) in nice condition (had it fully checked by my mechanics). It will carry three big horses space-wise but the living is pretty small and very basic. We are planning to improve the living but want to keep the weight down so certainly won't be adding too much stuff. Fortunately one of the three horses we will be travelling is my 14.2hh arab!

But I'd say you'd be looking at either a nicer spec truck on an older (say late 80s/early90s) chassis, or like us a slightly less well fitted box on a newer chassis......
