...dressage to music or is it just for affiliated riders? Dressage is hardly my strong point but I've never yet managed to find a competition where you can have a go at dressage to music at unaffiliated (prelim...

if unaffiliated anyone can do it BUT there are very few prelim dressage to musics because BD doesn't run any music tests at that level. The riding club has a very well structured championship so i'm told but the standard is also very high.

I would just go out and have a go though, have a search round or even try hard to persuade your local unaffiliated venue they should hold a class just make sure they are aware of the various copyrighting rules/laws that are applicable to music classes.

What - even for unaffiliated?

I thought you could use whatever you liked!

Oh dear... this explains why I'm an SJer rather than a stressager doesn't it...

Thanks for your help though guys - I'll have a look at local riding clubs.

To compete at DTM you have to be a either a full member of BD, of if you are a member of an affilaited RC you can become a 'Music Member'. This costs £15 & you need to be Music Member to compete in RC DTM competitions. The music membership entitled you to compete at BD affilated music competitions as well. If you qualify for anything you need to upgrade to a full BD membership, but you can set your £15 music membership against the full afilliation fee.
Your music tape/disc has to be labelled with details of the music on it & there are a couple of straightforward forms to fill in.
You do not need to be a music member to train for DTM.
Any organisations wishing to run DTM comps have to pay a licience fee to BD as well.
(NB. BD do not make these rules - it's all to do with the copyright on the music & that it's being played in public.)
