My friend owns a lovely horse who I have known for many years. However she is now pregnant so needs someone to look after him as she doesn't really have the time or energy anymore! She did think she'd found some nice people to loan him and they took him off two months ago and it all seemed to be going well, then they called her up today to say they want to send him back, so she needs to find someone else to take him on.
Some history: He is a 13 year old 16.1h irish thoroughbred type bay gelding, quite lightly built so not a weight carrier and had back issues in the past so again, not a weight carrier (these should be fixed now, he has had physio treatment and a made to measure saddle fitted). He is not a novice horse, he was mistreated as a youngster (starved and beaten) hence he can come across as aggressive, though he is really just wary of people. He is a lot better than he used to be but can still be grumpy at times and you have to be gentle when grooming him and tacking him up as he is quite sensitive.
To ride he has always been pretty good. He is quite well schooled in dressage which is the main thing he does. He is not the easiest to ride jumping, he was overfaced as a youngster so is not very confident, he will come at the fences quite quickly and will often jump them a lot bigger than they really are which can be unsettling for some people! However this may improve with work, his owner is not the best jumper so although she has improved him from how he was (wouldn't go near a jump) she is not confident/stable! enough to solve all his issues.
He has always been good to hack with his owner but the reason these people are sending him back is because they say he has started to refuse to go forwards and then rear up whilst hacking. He never used to be like this so my friend and I aren't sure why he is doing it. The loaners do like to hold him in a very tight outline so we think this may be putting him off going forwards so causing him to object but they have made up their minds that they don't want him anymore.
So would anyone like him! I've not portrayed him in the best light but I thought it was best to be honest, he is a sensitive chap so needs someone who'll be understanding of this. Friend needs to find home soon as she basically has nowhere to put him, his old stable's now been filled so she needs to find a new loaner ASAP. Can anyone help? (PS: She wants to loan him rather than sell as he has had a tough life so she wants to keep an eye on what happens to him, don't know if she might sell to a really good home). Based in Surrey.
Sorry this is long!
