Further to my post about reeducating a young JRT, the family have decided they cannot cope with him. They have asked me if I can help to try and rehome him as they have been told by local charities that as he has drawn blood they would PTS without question. On the one hand I think this is the right thing to do as I certainly wouldnt want him to go to another family, but on the other hand in the right home I think he would have a chance. Imo he needs to be a working/outdoor terrier, he is JRT x Pat (almost 100% sure of this) and would be better suited to a farm/horsey household where he can be allowed to do a bit of rat catching and the like to keep him busy. Tbh he doesnt get enough exercise where he is and has been allowed to rule the roost, hence his over possessive, stroppy behaviour when he doesnt get his own way. If anyone thinks they could help or has any helpful suggestions please fire them my way. He will only go to an experienced terrier person who can offer strong leadership and offer him a suitale environment. I know this is a hard ask and we will PTS if the right home doesnt come along, betther that than a JRT with a very long list of ASBOs :(
Just to add, he is 18 months old, neutered and up to date with jabs etc. Again, IMO if the local council pound had taken more care in his initial rehoming he wouldnt have ended up in this situation now, but thats another thread!!

Poor little s*d! :( Sorry, it really irks me these people that do not discipline their dogs enough in the initial stages and, quite frankly get totally unsuitable dogs for their situation.

I am sorry that I cannot offer any practical help other than suggesting you post some details maybe on your facebook page if you have one (as I think this at least means it reaches a fair few people), and contacting rescue centres if you can. Has this dog been removed from it's current home in the meantime? I really hope so.

Bothers me too. Then they put their hands in the air and wait for someone else to sort the situation out. IMO terrier types especially ones with patterdale/ Lakeland blood are not ideal family dogs for the kiddies to drag around. We've got one just the same and tbf we just walked him more and were stricter with him. Not rocket science.

I agree with you both. I was horrified when they came home with him, hes a cracking little dog but not a family pet and I predicted trouble from the start :( He hasnt been removed, there is nowhere for him to go other than the vets and they do want to try and find him a more suitable home if at all possible. Local rehoming centres wont take him which is fair enough, I wouldnt want to risk another unsuitable home,he is a proper terrier and needs an experienced owner to put him right.

Contact terrier rescue - I used to know someone who worked with them and they are very thorough about any rehoming both from the point of view of the dog and of the home ( terrier savvy only) who would take him .. it would be worth giving this dog a chance if they can...http://www.terrierrescue.co.uk/
