My beautiful mare has developed some form of dreadful skin allergy - well that's all I can think it is.
She is rubbing herself raw, blood and puss seeping from everywhere. Well I say everywhere its mainly her back end and her bits and pieces. The rest of her body has raised spots that are extremely tender to touch, eventually her hair falls out and she is left with a black mark.
She is biting at herself and is extremely uncomfortable. My vet has offered a skin test but not much else and I cant help but think there is some form of antihistamine that can be offered to her just to calm everything down. My vet has said to place a rug on her but she is so sore she just doesn't like it, becomes hot and very fed up.
I am concerned that she has some form of illness 'up and in there' on the basis that she keeps rubbing her back end. Her bum and girlie parts are raw.
I am hosing down regularly, have applied sudacrem and am trying to keep her outside as much as I can as she seems happier in the field.
Please any help would be appreciated. I am going to place in new lounge as well.
Thanks.
