I'm really sorry to post this on here - but it's literally broken my heart.

Can anyone offer this old gentleman a home?

The original posting on FB was this:

‎*TOMMY*(Wales)
PTS 10/1
Tommy a male Staffie,11y.o,chipped and is no longer wanted. Poor boy is totally devastated and just wants his owners to come and get him out of this nightmare. He is very thin, very depressed,he just sits there with his head down and is fast losing the will to live. He's described as very loving and quiet and loves a fuss bless him. Please please help me get this boy to safety so he doesn't die here alone, his time is up tomorrow and we need to get him out and into a loving home to see out his remaining years.
TOMMY IS VACC'D,WORMED,CHIPPED AND CAN BE NEUTERED.
RESCUE SPACE OR FOSTER WITH RBU.

PLEASE SHARE FAR AND WIDE.
Contact Lianne Evans or Shelle Allders, thanks

Poor man :( Thats awful, would love to help but not able to as current rescue can't be kenneled/home with anything else. I hope he finds a happy place soon.

Can anyone confirm he's safe? Can get him into a rescue where he'd be safe for life, probably already have a home lined up for him if he needs it.

There does not seem to be much info on the page apart from an auction trying to raise money for him.

No.

From what I can gather he's gone from the pound to foster care, hence the money being raised for his care.

I have asked on the original fb post I saw and the auction site if he now has a 'forever' home. We'll see what the response is.

Even dreamt about the poor mutt last night.

I'm sure he's now safe, and will be lovingly cared for. But would be nice for that to be confirmed.

I read it when someone else commened on the side bit on fb and couldn't find it again. At least he is safe and in a home environment for now, I hope a permanent home is found for him, poor lad.
It could just be the way I am reading it but the fact it says he is chipped but no longer wanted suggests to me he was straying and when the owners were contacted they gave him up rather than pay a recovery fee. I have heard of this happening so many times, I think there should be a hefty fine for abandonment of a dog so people wouldn't just see it as an easy way out. Perhaps if it was a lot more than pts then at least they would ensure their dog had a peaceful end if they didn't want it anymore.

Can we keep this thread updated if anyone hears more? I'm sure one of us could help if needed, I'm away next week but would do my best.

Poor little chap - I can see why he wrenched at your heart OP. He really looks depressed. Had he been local I would have persuaded hubby to have him as his van dog (farrier)

Oh that made my eyes leak.

As long as he's OK with other dogs - I have a 10yro Cocker bitch - I'd offer him a home and tackle OH later. Large bungalow, open fire, secure garden and plenty of trips to the yard.

Please keep us informed.

I think if you can offer him a home, the best thing to do is to go on to the fb page.

Sorry don't think I can, I don't do the facebook thing and as I'm at work I can't log into OHs page.

Will check tonight if no updates on here during the day.

It was reported last week that the little chap has now passed away.

He was in foster, but was discovered to have some sort of tumour.

What a shame, but at least he was out of the kennels and in a foster home for is last few days. I wonder if his previous owners knew about the tumour and decided to dump him rather than pay for treatment.

:( we get a few come in where the owners know that they should pts but just don't have the heart to do it. Glad he was in a home when his time came that at least is a kindness. I have a huge soft spot for golden oldies they have so much to offer but when you give their age most people looking for a dog are put off :( They make fabulous companions and are usually very little bother.

Maybe they couldn't afford it?? The PDSA who would normally be there for people on a low income or retired etc have put a lot of restrictions on which animals they will treat, its no longer about the person being in poor circumstance they now restrict to a max of pedigree's as well as a max of pets supposedly because people buy a pedigree for large amounts of money - codswallop if you rescue especially with breed rescues who often don't ask for a donation as the home is more important. Personally I think its wrong to make people especially the elderly to choose between which pet gets treatment and which doesn't when they could have had them their whole lives.
