I bought my mare last year in July, 15.1hh, 12yo, ISH, unvetted, very aware of how green she was, but also the most nervous horse I've ever dealt with, very loving and honest with it though. I bought her from a friend who had basically saved her from a dealer who was sending her for meat!! I managed to get in contact with the previous owner before she ended up with the dealer, who told me a bit about her, she bought her as a unbroken 10 yo, who had only been used as a brood mare, from what I know she had her first foal at 2 and a half, and went on to have around 4, the lady then broke her in etc, and then she ended up with the dealer, my friend only had her 6 weeks, when I bought her, I rode her a couple of times at my friends, just rounds the fields as she doesn't have a school, so I knew how nervous she was before I got her, I gave her a month to settle in before I even sat on her because I wanted her to gain my trust on the ground, I then got her saddle fitted and began to ride her, I then noticed every time I put my leg on in the slightest, she would shoot forward, I put this down to her nerves, I'm a quiet rider anyway, and it doesn't bother me the jumping about so I just carried on thinking she'd settle in the long run, it then came to the end of summer and she started coming in for the night, I built a great bond with her, and one day in November I was grooming her round her back legs, and she lifted her leg so high and done a huge cow kick! Luckily I managed to get out the way quick enough, it went on for a few days, I then decided to get the vet out as it was so out of character, the vet confirmed on the yard she was in foal! Took a blood test, and a week later I got a call to say her blood test had come back unusual, so I ended up taking her to the equine clinic for a scan which confirm she had miscarried but was still carrying the foal, she had to have an injection and some antibiotics which helped her to release the foal more of a natural way, I gave her some time off, and began riding again in January, my sister, who is a very quiet rider also, has lessons on her every week, and she's been coming along really well, (still trying the odd cow kick on the yard, but that's a working progress :) ) she came into season in march time, and has seasoned around every 3 weeks since so far, she doesn't really get any worse whilst in season but its very regular, in her lessons it takes her a while to settle but then she's ok, she still doesn't like leg on though, she will shoot forward if you apply a lot of pressure, and the last month or so we have noticed she seems to look lame on her hind left in trot only, I'm not sure if it because she so tense or if she is uncomfortable. She doesn't always track up and you have to constantly make an effort to keep her in a straight line, she often holds her tail up and to the side as well.
Is there anyone out there that can help me?
I've had her saddle fitted, her back looked at by a chiropractor, her teeth done, feet regularly trimmed, she is booked in to see an equine sports therapist in 2 weeks
My next step will be to get the vet, I've read up so so much what it COULD be, I just want to know if anyone has had any experience with any mare like her.

Sorry it's so long, just felt I should include everything.

Thanks. Kirsty
