Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for a good vet to carry out a five stage vetting on a ID horse I've seen in Gloucestershire, Lydney area.

Any idea of costs as its been a while since I've needed one.

Also thinking of getting it blood tested and feet x rayed - would welcome your thoughts... :)

The vet I use for my horse is Lambourn Equine which are well priced and good however they maybe a little far out for you.
I recently got my new horse stage 5 vetted which cost around £250 and they took a blood test anyway so it was included in the price:) I'm sorry I this doesn't help.

Well I could certainly advice on several vets round Lydney NOT to use

I would always use John Killingbeck's Willesley clinic for something like that - link below - 01666 number

horse specific practice, run by a previous Olympic team vet,
excellent reputation, very reasonable rates

and call-out fees to the Forest cheaper than many of the Forest vets

they have regular days every week when they have someone in Forest (and usually it's John himself)

Yep, as above, B&W (bushy and Willesley) did our eventer- full 5 stage WITH X-RAYS came to about 600 but we did have all his legs and spine xrayed...

Ollie did ours but that's just because we trust him and he knows his bones! I've only ever had a problem with one of the female vets there-the rest have always been fab.

We're very lucky to be so close to such a great vets.

another vote for what used to be called bushy equine B&W - excellent vets and facilities and our vet (he covers somerset so not sure you would get him) is very down to earth and sensible giving good solid advice.

Another vote for 3 Counties Equine vets. Brilliant vets, equine specialists so not just general vets, I used them for 5 stage vetting and other things, really good.

Price wise I've always found them to be no dearer than general vets, and you are getting a specialst equine vet for your money, and they also do a 1/2 price call out fee for each area zone on a set day a week (I think Lydney will be 1/2 price call out on Thursdays, but best check with them), I phoned several different vets for 5 stage vetting prices, and not only did I want to go with them as I felt they were the best, but they were also the cheapest (can't remember exactly how much now, £200-ish perhaps, but it was a little while ago?)
