I have just started working in West Oxford and would like to move my horse a little closer. I have contacted and been to look at a few yards on the outskirts which have websites but haven't yet found anything I like. There must be some smaller yards out there that fit the bill. I'm looking for:
DIY livery
No more than 15 miles from Botley
Flood lit school
Good hacking
24hr turnout in the summer
Most importantly I would like somewhere friendly and sociable with the possibility of hunting and going to competitions with fellow liveries (I do have my own transport though).

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I'm drawing a blank at the moment and 80 milles of commuting a day is starting to wear thin!

Thank you both of you. I have looked at Worton park but it is full at the moment and is more North of Oxford than I would ideally like. Will see if I can find Mills Farm.

Any more suggestions?

Try around Witney, about 20 minutes from Botley and there are some lovely yards in villages such as Aston and Bampton, one with regular clinics ( the last being with Paul Tapner!)

If you read Central Horse News magazine there are usually ads in there for all things horsey. They had a livery feature recently (July or August issue) with a guide to lots of different yards and I seem to recall there were quite a lot listed for Oxfordshire, although not sure if the area you're looking for. Try and get a copy or ring them up for past issues.

Hi,

I can highly recommend the yard i'm currently at which is grove farm in Harwell, about 2 mins off the a34 at didcot. assisted DIY/grass or part livery, the YM is great and very flexible and accommodating.24 hr t/o all year if wanted (though it does get rather muddy in the winter), lovely 60x20 school with floodlights, and large grass jump arena, horse walker currently being put in, lovely hacking around 700arce farm and the its possible to go hacking up towards the ridgeway with miles and miles of off road hacking. dressage and jumping competitions on site and people are often off to shows and i'm sure some will be hunting this winter (great hunting territory!). and we are a very friendly sociable bunch, theres a fair few of us who are about in the evenings after work who always end up down there far later than planned cos we get side-tracked gossiping!

pm me if you want any further details :)
