Hi, I am thinking of investing in a paper shredder for use in stables and small animal bedding.... I have no idea what makes are out there, what sizes or what is a good price to pay.... Can anyone help...

cheers....

you're going to need an awful lot of paper for a horses bed - though I know people who do it for hamsters, etc.

Look in Staples or search on line. I don't know if they make industrial sized shredders to use at home - I imagine they would be very big!

I have an old fashioned office one which will shed around 30 sheets at a time and goes quite quickly. It takes a long time to get enough to make a bed.

I'd either look on ebay or if you wanted new Staples is probably a good suggestion.

Alternatively chat up your local GP practice as they get through loads of shredding. It's where my paper bedding used to come from.

Where are you. I have an industrial one that I haven't used for a year since where I work stopped giving free newspapers to customers and letting me have the spare ones. I'm sure it must still work fine and cost hundreds new. It is about 80 cms by 80 cms and about a meter high. Pm me if interested we live near NEC birm/cov

sadly not the farm is near Milton Keynes.... but thanks for the offer...

I tried every 'office shredder' going. They all packed up pretty quickly and it took forever to shred enough for two beds!

I managed to get use of a commercial one (120 sheet a time) and used to get papers from the local hotel/neighbours but found that although free, the resulting bedding was dusty (have horse that coughs) messy, heavy and hard to muck out and so much waste that my muck heap was mahoosive!

Then I discovered wood pellet bedding and am a total convert! Cheap, easy to muck out and hardly any muck heap to dispose of, perfect :-)
