My horse Missie is just coming back into work after a period off during which she's been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her hocks. She also had back pain which was basically caused by her compensating for the discomfort in her hind legs, but this disappeared quite quickly with physio treatment, and now that she's had the steroid injections in her hocks I'm hopeful she can come back into normal work and do well. However given the history of back problems, before I start riding her again properly I really want to get both my saddles checked for fit, particularly as with being out of work for a while she's lost quite a lot of muscle. It seems pretty clear that the back pain was secondary to the pain in her hindlegs, but I just want to be sure the saddles aren't/weren't exacerbating her discomfort.

The problem is that I need to find a fitter who will come out and simply check the fit of my saddles, without necessarily wanting to sell me a new one (unless the ones I have now fit appallingly, which I don't think they do!). My dressage saddle is an Ideal and the jump saddle is a Butet - I could get the Butet fitter up but he's based in Oxfordshire

As for the Ideal, I'm not sure who I'd get to check that!

Can anyone recommend a good, knowledgable fitter who would offer this kind of service?

What is R&R? Heard lots about them (i.e a brilliant sale apparently!) but don't know what R&R stands for?
Thank you

Have you tried rideaway? If you get the chap who owns the place - he is actually very good. They checked mine and I walked away without being sold anything at all.

R&R I'm not sure about - don't think they have an expert.

jnb- this is a saddlers near to selby. Don't know what R and R stands for though they are called R&R country. THink they have a website too

thanks everyone, will have a look. don't know why i didn't think of Rideaway seeing as i bought my Ideal from there - doh!!

Oh forgot to ask jess did the guy from rideaway (richard clarke isn't it?) come out or did you have to take the horse to him?

throughly recommend patrick from beverly, really nice guy.

r&r dont even go there. They sold and fitted me a faulty saddle which caused george to have back problems - and they were not very forthcoming afterwards until they were threatened with legal action!

I recommend " The tackman" he is fantastic, makes anything you want too, he fitted our horse with a ideal saddle, even though he does make his own,
he is doing a demo at Moorhouse equestrian centre too this month,
