Can Anyone Recommend a Specialist Neurological Vet

Hi all

Just asking this for a friend of mine. I have no further details other than she needs to find a specialist neurological/muscular vet. cant go through current vet apparently (no idea why not).

So far she has had someone called JP Mahoney recommended.

Does anyone know him/her or anyone else.

I assume that this is an equine vet you're after? The RVC has a great neuromuscular guy called Richard Piercy, but it really depends on what's wrong with the horse and if your friend wants to go down the referral route...

My wobblers boy ended up seeing a fab consultant at Liverpool (cant remember name but had brown/fair hair) possibly Sean somebody or other, sorry can't be of more help. Liverpool have the diagnostic tools and experience for neuro problems.

Another vote for richard piercy! A really nice down to earth vet, who took all my "stupid" questions and answered them so I could understand...your friend will need to be reffered to RVC though.

There are very few veterinary neurologists who do much horse work in this country unfortunately. Richard Piercy at the RVC and Caroline Hahn at Edinburgh are the only two that spring to mind. Having said that there are many more specialists in equine medicine, who are all going to be extremely good at clinical neurology, just without the research interest. Bristol Vet School is probably the closest to Wiltshire (if that's where the horse is?).

That's the man! He was really nice but authorative. Told it how it was which I guess I really appreciated at the time.
