I'm looking to buy a video camera, to film riding in the school & out at comps, for interdressage too. Can anyone recommend any? Or any awful ones to avoid please?

I'm on a budget, so not looking to spend £££. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just something basic, that I can use to record a couple of hours of half-decent video.

Also, for those that film in the school, do you just leave the camera on the fence, or do you use a tripod or similar? Don't want anything so light it would blow off the fence! ;)

Any suggestions / experiences would be much appreciated :)

QVC seem to have a few decent one's (good reviews. sell well) And oftne have them on the ezpayments (spread over so many months interest free) Maybe worth a look.
They have most electronics over the weekend

I got one for exactly the same purpose it was a samsung off ebay it was reconditioned still takes little tapes but was digital to hook up to PC and only cost me £45 plus postage it was like brand new and does my job!!

I have a Flip camera which was about £100 from amazon - very small, sooo easy to use (although OH takes a lot of film of the rubber school surface when he's in charge!) and simplicity itself to load onto computer and email.

i got a panasonic from argos, it was about £340
it is ok, easy to use. it is an HDD one so lots of memory and no cassettes to buy or go wrong.
i had a mini DV version of it before that (it died after falling from a height onto the menage!) which took much clearer shots i have to say.
