Can anyone recommend inexpensive yard/safety boots please?

Last time I had a horse, circa 1970-1978, everyone wore wellingtons to handle horses. This time round, and I've seen mention of yard boots on here.

Today, leading Mollie in from the field, she shied in the gale force wind and trod on my foot. Ouch. No real harm done, as we were on soft ground, but it did bring to my attention the fact that wellies don't protect from injury!

So, I think I'll look for strong boots. What can people suggest please? I am on a low income so will have to try to keep the cost down. However I realise there's no point in buying rubbish which won't do the job.

Any recommendations/ones to avoid please? Thanks!

My friend is on her 3rd pair of the mountain horse protective jodhpur boots and loves them, they get alot of wear as she's a groom. I'v got a pair of mh rimfrost paddock boots. Not overly keen on them. Yeah they're warm but they're quite uncomfortable to wear and heavy. They're nice to ride in but very chunky and it is a tight fit with chaps! I tend to wear my woof wear long boots in the winter, not safety but the warmest things I'v ever come across! If I need steel toe caps I pull my rigger boots on, much cheaper than horsey boots!

I have muckboots from The Muck Boot Co, same material as wellies on your feet but much thicker and more durable, I never feel it when chunky Irish decided to walk on me!, waterproof, super comfy and can be ridden in and werent too pricey...sorted! :)

I bought a pair of mens boots (like trainers, only boots) from shoe zone for 22.50 They have protective toes and keep feet dry in wet grass.

Along with the usual hunter wellies/ariat boots/muck boot wellies I also use rigger boots, you know the types builders wear? I need these for my work and it was one day to the yard i forgot my wellies so used these and they were great! waterproof, fleece lined and of course steel toe capped!

I did exactly the same with my riggers! Went straight to yard from work in them and couldn't believe how great they were and why I hadn't thought of it before! Plus they've got more grip in snow and ice than wellies!

Oh you might have trouble finding a size 3! I had to order mine in for a size 5 but if you find a building suppliers they might be able to order you them as apparently theres a 'growing market' for small ladies riggers according to the man I spoke too, maybe its all these horsey women!
