I was trying to look up my mares history (grey mare in sig) and know that she was by a stallion called Hildenly who is a TB and has sired several very good event horses such as Mallards Treat. I have a feeling he has passed on now judging by various comments that I have found on Google i.e. ... "out of one of the last few mares by Hildenly" etc.

If anyone has any ideas that would be lovely, many thanks

(PS I have done usual google searches but all refences are to his off spring)

Hildenley was foaled in 1968 - which explains his 'past tense' Google references - and stood for most of his stud career with Pat Kinsella, Knockhouse Stud on the Kilkenny/Waterford border. The well-known NH sire, Roselier and equally well-known in Draught circles, Ben Purple, were two other sires that also stood with the Kinsellas.

(Another piece of trivia - Ben Purple was the damsire of Sydney gold medallist, Custom Made).

Hildenley is best known to Irish breeders as the sire of David Broome's grey Last Resort, that won the 1983 Amsterdam Grand Prix and a couple of World Cup qualifiers back then. Horse was originally named Phoenix Park, when owned by Canadian Torchy Miller and the story went that in order to buy the horse, he offered Miller one final offer as a 'last resort'. Hence the change in name!

Hildenley was bred by MH Easterby and had a total of 518 foals registered with the Irish Horse Board. Not many other Hildenley progeny reached the same heights as Last Resort - not many do - but he would be regarded as a good name to have in the back pedigree.

His own pedigree is very interesting as he goes back to Fair Trial on his top line; Fair Trial's dam - Lady Juror - is particularly well-bred as she was by Son-In-Law (Bay Ronald line) out of the brilliant broodmare, Lady Josephine.

The other interesting part of his pedigree is he was line-bred 4 x 4 to Gold Bridge, that also featured the 1907 dual Derby winner, Orby, on both sides of his pedigree. Line-breeding if it works, inbreeding if it don't.

I`ve got a 28yr old by Hildenly and he is the best horse i`ve ever owned. He competed to advanced medium dressage, won over £350 BSJA and did intermediate eventing. He`s still in work and looks fab.
