Can anyone tell me if this hoof supplement is any good?

Hi, thanks for posting this as I'm also looking for a hoof supplement, I currently feed dodson and horrell equi-bites but dont think they contain enough biotin

I wouldn't use this myself. Horses can produce biotin themselves, so I'd be more interested in the levels of copper, zinc and magnesium... Which are minimal or absent in this product.

Genuine advice despite the fact that I kept my horse with the founder of this company but I would whole heartedly recommend Riaflex. Kate really knows her stuff in this regard and if you contact her would be more than happy to recommend. I know her product has way more of the active ingredients necessary that most of the stuff on the market!

Thanks- had a look at the riaflex, but they don't seem to do a hoof supplement. Nocturnal- can you recommend an alternative, preferably cost effective!, hoof supplement?

Is the equimins one only biotin?

We used the vetvits supplement on our horse as we were told he was on it before, but it didn't really make a difference and he would struggle to keep his shoes on as his feet wouldn't grow. We then changed farriers in november and put him on better 4 hooves (http://www.better4hooves.co.uk/) and his feet have improved so much. It is expensive and I know the different farrier has helped A LOT, but his feet are actually growing now and *touch wood* we haven't had any issues yet!

Well... I'd personally recommend pro hoof, which is what I used. Equimins meta balance is also good, and the new forage plus balancer looks good also. If you want cheaper, I'd go with brewers yeast and magnesium oxide.

I agree with you, but some horses (those with bad feet or skin) benefit from the addition of extra biotin to the diet. I also agree that magnesium, zinc and methionine should be added.

There are some very good ones on the market, but avoid those only containing biotin (see above) the recommended remedial dose for an average 500kg horse is 15mgs per day. TopSpec do a very good one but I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called

the equine america hoof sup is worth the price if u have poor feet (hoof power plus or hoof magic not sure what its called?) also used to use dodson and horell hoof sup (hoof sure?) and din't find it as good. i used the vetvits mobility sup and found that was good so guess the hoof one may be good too

I've had Starbar on formula 4 feet for a year noq, and his hooves are amazing compared to what they used to be. We've gone from flat, sensitive, easily bruised, flaky and soft feet that would'nt hold a shoe for more than 2 weeks, to strong healthy growth and 6 week shoeings. It took a few weeks to start seeing the difference, and it's quite pricey, but imo well worth it. It's also a broad spectrum balancer so no need to add anything else to his diet. His coat looks amazing too :-)

My highland is on this as well. I've had her on it since October and her hooves are the best they've been in 4 years. Her hooves were very crumbly and she had seedy toe disease. Her hooves now are harder and in much better condition.

As above please- seems very well priced and has enough biotin in it for the recommended daily level, but beyond that I know nothing!

I don't know that product so can't comment... But after advice on here I started my TB (with disastrous feet) on Pro Hoof from an Ebay seller and they all get micronised linseed each day...

There's a mahoosive improvement in the TB's hooves... I have a new farrier working with him who's excellent and I can already see smooth new hoof rather than the ridgy, distorted things he had when he arrived... He's keeping shoes from the new farrier on for a full six weeks and he's now getting rolls on his front shoes and proper heel support all round - with a little trim and shoe back on the behind toes because he over reaches... Two others in regular work are shoe less and I do think the micronised linseed has helped them too...

It might not suit everyone but I can see improvement in my dodgy hoofed TB... :)
