can anyone tell me-----

Is this his first bitch, or has he mated other bitches successfully? It could just be down to inexperience if the former, I have known bitches conceive without a tie so if another dog has mated her you could possibly get a double conception.

hes had half a dozen bitches but the last 2 hes failed to connect, hes very fit but 10 years old-would this make a difference?

It might do, does sound as if it is a physical problem, I have never used a dog of that age I have to admit, although I do know terriers go on a lot longer than GSDs. Although ime the problem with older dogs is more that they are less fertile than not able to tie. Can't really offer a lot of help, might be worth getting the vet to check him if you are really keen to use him, otherwise as long as he is fit and well, peeing ok etc perhaps just put it down to advancing years (get him some viagra :p).

Ha,Ha MM- Thanks for the info, not bothered about him having bitches, just a neighbour of ours brought a bitch to him tonight and it didn't work so put her on our other horror who is alot older and randy as hell!!!

I have always understood it that the tie occurs when the glands at the base of the dogs penis swells. It is only when it has relaxed again that they separate.

TEN?! Life in the old dog yet, quite literally :p

As long as you don't do what a lot of people seem to be doing now Rosie, sticking a picture of the tie on the internet to prove the mating took place

**BLEURGH!**
