Definitely there are a lot of success stories, both dogs and horses,I don't disagree. I also used to volunteer. There has been a long standing vendetta against this charity. I have a couple of dogs from there, and know others who have rehomed from them. I have no complaints. The place is big, the animals have always looked well looked after whenever I've been there. Volunteers are usually short term, it's the nature of the system. There is an animus against the founder which I do understand as they are quite abrasive, but, having taken an interest in the world of animal welfare over many years, this is one of the better facilities.
There have been doubts about the honesty of the fundraising methods which I saw first hand. They were stopped doing street collections for that reason.
The manager is now no longer in full control however since it was put in partnership with another charity so maybe it has improved but I still don't see how, with her own admission of having 107 dogs and 61 other animals they can all be getting proper care with just 1 or 2 adults and some foreign students.
It isn't that big a place, 25 10×12 horse stables, an indoor school not quite big enough to put a dressage arena in, and about 30 acres of grazing ( mainly used for a local farmer's sheep).
The dogs are paired off in Harris fencing squares fixed with cable ties. A lot of animals aren't available to be seen on the 2 or 3 open days they've had recently, people have only been let into the corridor between the loose boxes.
However, I hope what you say is correct as there are far too many unwanted dogs for the available pounds and kennels at the mo due to indiscriminate breeding and a safe place to put them is necessary.
