Can Cows Pass On Any Diseases To horses?

Need to move 2 cows, and have horsebox, not cattle transport.
Horse box is used for TB's breeding mares, and youngstock.

Is there any danger in any shape, way or form?

Any vehicle used to transport cattle must be cleansed and disinfected with DEFRA approved disinfectant before and after use anyway - so that should sort out any nasties. Ringworm and lice are all I can think of too...

Fam 30 is a strong DEFRA approved disinfectant. We used it through the F&M outbreak. It kills bacteria, viruses and fungi, so your trailer will be thoroughly cleansed and give you peace of mind. We also use it diluted in 5 litre knapsack sprayers on the stable walls. Really handy stuff to have.

Although very unlikely as it is now largely eradicated, the warble fly can infect horses, wrong time of year at the moment for them so shouldn't apply unless near cows in the Summer as it warms up,Oz

When we kept milking cows, we always used my horse trailer to take them to shows and sales and my horses never caught anything! The breast bar is a bit high for cows so you may have to put hay bales or something in the front.

Depending on your horse box status (probably private?) you aren't allowed to move cattle for commercial purposes. you should get away with it as long as :

a You are not taking them to market or abbattoir

b You are not traveling over 40 km - you need to pass a certificate in the welfare of Animals during Transport. to take any livestockm over 40km

c dont't forget to tell BCMS of the change in holding number for the cattle - you have 3 days from moving date
