Last night at 8pm my dog got out of her basket, went and stood in the corner of the living room and had laboured breathing. She was at the vets for 9, my first fear was rat poison because she'd been running round at the yard. Vet said she had no haemorraging (sp?) of her gums or eyes so unlikely to be poison. Thinks it could be a trauma, possibly from a horse kick. I have no idea how, she was with me all evening and surely I'd have heard her yelp if she'd been kicked. Wish they could speak sometimes. So she spent the night last night and is having a GA and x-rays this morning. Vibes for my little dog please. :(

I've just rung the vets because I haven't heard anything yet. They haven't done the x-rays yet, just given her more pain relief and a different vet has checked her and thinks she has pain in her neck. Am I being fussy and neurotic in thinking they should have been done by now!? Emergency vet last night said they'd be done first thing.

You're bound to worry. They may have had a higher priority emergency in and it's hard to see your pet as not being a priority, but I'm sure she's being very well cared for and not put at any risk.

Hope you get a good update soon. Xxx

:( sending all the vibes I can from here. Really hope you get some good news this morning xxx

Thank you GG, I think I'm being irrational because I was worried they hadn't rung me in case something bad had happened :( xxx

Vet has just rung back, my phone call must have prompted them! He said there was no skeletal damage so it must just be muscular. Can get her tonight after work and she's to rest and have painkillers for a few days. So relieved :)

Healing vibes from here too. Hopefully its resolved soon.

I was in a similar situation with my lab a couple of weeks back. Had to have a chewed stick fragment removed from airway. Has made a full recovery.

Thank you Traveller, so glad to hear your lab was okay. They do like to worry us!

So glad to hear it doesnt appear to be too serious and she can come home - hope she feels much better soon. XX

Thanks Sprout :) I'm so relieved, I honestly thought the x-rays were going to come back with something sinister on! xx

Thats good news, you did the right thing getting your dog straight to the vet rather than asking on a forum first, hopefully now with meds this will be quickly resolved.

Yes, she's a small dog and often goes a bit shivery and pathetic for no reason but last night I could tell something wasn't right. She was just stood stock still and breathing very heavily and snuffling. Poor girl, hope she's feeling better after painkillers.

Glad to see the news so far and lots of vibes and best wishes for quick and uncomplicated recovery :)

Thanks Tobiano :)

Thanks Shady!! Oh god, poor doggy.. glad to hear he was okay! They do love to put us in mild states of hysteria don't they. I needed a serious word with myself last night pulling myself together before I drove to the vets! Can't wait for 4.30 so I can finish work and get the evil one :) xx
