Can field rest cure ulcers? I have a horse who is completely sound but I believe that through unfortunate events has now got ulcers that we can’t seem to fully clear up. I am in a vicious circle and I don’t have unlimited funds. Any experience on field test curing Ulcers?

I think it depends on the extent, severity and location of the ulcers.

I’d try it, and try a gastric supplement, but be prepared to treat if it doesn’t seem to improve.

I treated one with suspected ulcers. Vets scope was getting repaired and wouldn't be back for 3 weeks. I did no work at all with him, beside a quick daily check, fed 3 small feeds a day with an added vet recommended gut supplement and 3 huge round bales in the paddock. No idea if he did have ulcers or not but he came good so didn't end up scoping. Vet said if it was ulcers, they would likely have been stress related and caused from his recent move as I had only purchased him a month before.

Yes, possibly time turned away could be a healer, though what I would say for mine who has a history of ulcers and is a ‘lifer’ with them, I have to restrict grass intake. I’ve noticed lush, sugary grass causes a flair up. So I think the lifestyle change of being turned away can certainly help, though too much grass could also be a problem.

Unlikely especially if the cause of the ulcers is pain elsewhere in the body.
Ulcers are lesions in the mucus membrane and the constant presence of acid keeps irritating them. That's why it's unlikely to heal them without a medication such as omeprazole

Things like ulcers don’t have just one thing that causes them .
A vet once told me anything a horse does not like can cause ulcers including being in if they like out and out when they like in which was what we where dealing with .

There was a horse in the barn I'm in now who had ulcers which wouldn't respond to treatment. He was moved to another barn of very similar construction in the same management, and they healed. I wondered if it was the proximity to a busy road with traffic noise that bothered him, but it was definitely something about the barn as nothing else was changed.
