do you mean physically or out of sadness.
on a windy day, b gets teary eyes sometimes, but I just put this down to the wind. I get it too.
I would be interested to know other people's thoughts. - one night one of the ponies at our yard was pts after a very prolonged bout of colic. The horse stabled opposite stood most of the time he was ill looking into his stable with tears streaming down her face. don't know if she was crying or not, but she got big cuddles.

I do mean real tears out of trauma/upset. Much like what you describe.

No. They can weep to carry foreign bodies out, but not through pain or trauma.
