10 days ago teal come home from the kennels with a slice in his paw ( between pad and dew claw on inside) it was gaping a lot so went to vet and it was staples told leave open don't let him chew. Day 2 he got staples out so got new ones in Day7 was very puffy and oozing so second type antibiotics commenced. 2 days ago redressed looks lovely and healing. Just changed dressing now two staples in dressing and gaping hole although looks lovely abs healthy.

Argh!!! In vets Today anyway to have them out..... Loosing will now as is dog who has been lead walked for 10 days. It's just such a flexible area of the foot I just think staples are too rigid. But so far vet bill £200 for a cut that is 1cm max. So tempted to cancel vet and leave it for a week with Manuka honey in it??? to me it looks like its now healing inside out hence why staples ?? Pushed out naturally.

Can I say that to a vet never argued before about something other than diet :)

i work at a vets and have for 6yrs+ being able to discus things with them on a more friendly bases has taught me most vets will try to make things (injuries) look better as quick as poss as thats what owners want-talk to them they may agree with you

I wouldn't cancel the vet, but I would go and talk to them and say you would like to now give it a chance to heal on its own. My old girl Buffy had a lump removed from her tail and the wound just would not heal, twice stitches came out and in the end the vet and I agreed to give it a chance to heal on its own and see what happened. I used manuka honey at that stage (told the vet afterwards;)) and it did heal quite quickly. It may of course have down so anyway but I believe it helped. I would be slightly wary of putting manuka honey on a front paw as I think it may just encourage him to lick it more but definitely worth chatting about options with your vet.
Do the kennels know how he injured himself?

ETS Just re read your post and you say he is going in today to have staples out so think its highly unlikely they will want to re staple anyhow, it does look well on the way to healing.

Not sure if I'd staple that (nurse not vet). If it was a human I'd have left it probably. My cat once pulled his nipple off and some skin on a barbed wire fence. I took him to the vet really for an antibiotic jab and they insisted on stitching even though it was really just a thin flap which would just die off and fall off. Stitches kept popping open, they'd insist on re-stitching til eventually saw a different vet who said she'd never had stitched in the first place. Still had to pay the bill tho :( Maybe just keep it covered with a sock taped round his "ankle" so it's not tight on his foot but it's covered?

He's keeping it covered anyway because he licks it, just broken his buster collar do gonna go pets at home and get another quick. Spoke to vet who has said that if I am happy re it's healthy and actually a more shallow wound than it was (which it defo is the muscle layer has almost closed completely ) then leave it with a light dressing on. Gonna try Manuka u think as he us crated and collar anyway. Poor bugger the guns were up behind the house yesterday OH said he was just whining the whole day.
