*Can I ask your opinion on this horse please?*

Pictures can be very misleading, a horse can look nice on one shot and then on the same film, look bloody terrible, plus like many have mentioned you have no idea how the horse is being ridden, a horse can go well with one rider and they can be like chalk and cheese with the next.

Only way to is view the horse, get your friend to take a few experienced people with her and she can see for herself, if you like, then try the horse out as many times as you can, chuck a push bike in the car see it been ridden out a handful of times, spend some time down there, if there good people they won't have a problem with you wanting to get to know the horse etc then have it vetted is she's interested in the horse, if your friend is not overly keen on the horse in the first place then don't waste their time by going to see it.

The horse advertised could be totally genuine and they could be true to their word for all everyone knows, just because the yard isn't tip top, doesn't mean to say the horse could be bad un.

Can you imagine if we all judged everyone's photos that we posted on this forum of our own horses schooling/jumping, gosh we'd all be shoddy dealers flogging problem horses lol

(well some of us

)...but get my point surely, all I'm saying is if it sounds right, just go and view the horse.

Sorry, but i get a bad feeling about the whole business let alone the horses. Just look at the place in the background of some of the pics, it looks like a dump and the schools got wings and poles lying everywhere and she says "i'm a genuine seller who cares about her horses"!!!!. I'd give it a miss.

the impression i get is that horse is owned privately but has been sent to this yard to be sold...

FWIW i ignore the surroundings. have been to many a fancy yard to look at overpriced warmbloods and then bought my 4 year old from the grottiest looking yard you have ever seen and he's the best decision i ever made

ask to have it on x months loan before you buy, what ever you feel comfortable with weather it be 1 month or 6 months, if they really care about this horse they will not have a problem with it.

There is no way I would put out a horse of mine to someone like that. You can ruin a horse in a very short time & then what happens? I would allow someone to come to the yard & try the horse several times but there is no way I'd let it go off the yard

Ditto!!

I'd have the same look on my face if someone held onto me like that over a fence. No wonder the horse looks so tight.

The guy riding seems to be riding all of the horses in the same horrible overbent 'outline' and on all of the jumping pics he keeps his hands in his lap, so I would think it is more likely to be an issue with his riding that makes the horse look strong in the photo. Agree with others, the only way to see if it is any good is for your friend to go and see it herself.

The only advice that I can give you is if you really like the horse, ask to have it on x months loan before you buy

Its a perfectly reasonable question to ask if their dealers (from a buyers point of view), despite if it's not something you (and myself included for that matter), would do if selling a horse be it privately or if I was trade, its clear to see from peoples replies about this that thankfully a lot of us care about our horses, where they go and the potential problems it could cause etc.

But (I always have a but) there are a few dealers yards that do offer this option and it does work well in a lot of cases and in many cases benefits the horse, any dealer with is head screwed on (far and few between no doubt) wouldn't just let any Tom,Dick and Harry take a 3000 grand horse for trial if they didn't think the person would be able to manage it responsibly and see where the horse was going etc, certain conditions/paper work and common sense would apply yes but is it not a silly question to ask by far, if you don't ask, you'll never know.

If the they turn round and say ''trial?!...I don't think so luv'' then so what, you have not lost anything in asking.

Wow fab response, thanks for all your replies/advice. Will pass all comments on, I think he cld be a nice horse, agree with comments about how unhappy/tight he looks and as has been said almost impossible to say what he's really like without having a look/ride herself. Think a bad rider can make a good horse look awful and vice versa. Also the camera does lie, I know this from experience!
