This lady is reasonably local to me and I have known about this website for a while now. I like the way it is laid out, the way she works and the looks of the horses. I have thought that if, if, I am ever in the position to buy a horse again I might use this lady.

What do you think?

Are the prices reasonable? Do you think the system is good? Do the horses look of reasonable quality?

Thanks!

Whats the website?

I think she seems honest, too... but then I know nothing about dealers (except for how awful the man I bought Nile from was, how he wasn't too kind to his horses and he ripped me off!).

There are a few pictures of them lounging about on horses...

But apart from that?

not at all my cup of tea.....sorry...

Well okay but why? That's why I'm asking the advice of people with more experience - what puts you off?

i'll be as polite as i can...

i don't "buy" into the NH/Parelli thing...

wouldn't buy a horse/pony that has been "started" that way personally....

little bits of the "whole picture" are just common sense..the majority IMO can and does do a lot of damage mentally to a horse/pony..

that is JUST my opinion.....

I don't know enough about parelli or horses to judge that but I certainly know that a lot of people do think so. If I'm honest I wouldn't want to keep up the training with the carrot stick and halter and all that... apart from anything else I think it's a money scam! I do think horses should live out where possible and i wouldn't shoe a horse if I didn't have to, but I have always kept horses English traditional sytle with no real probs. And I don't believe horses can be trained purely by positive reinforcement... I actually think having someone sit on and stay on your back regardless of what you do is surely a form of negative reinforcement!

I wasn't attracted to it because of the natural horsemanship but because of the prices and the grading system... but it is interesting that you would be wary of these horses... this is why I was asking for opinions.

I'm not entirely convinced either, I'm afraid. I suspect if you had problems later on it would be put down to your management ie you haven't been doing Parelli/Natural Horsemanship with it. I do think the rating system is a good idea, but it's very subjective.

And I would question whether a horse which had an "unfortunate habit of rearing people off and backing them into ditches!" and alleged psychological problems could ever be "3 middle type of horse, likely to be a nice hack or general purpose horse. May scare more easily than a type 1 or 2, or be a bit more of a cheeky character. Easily managed by people with some experience." (see Duchess). However, the lady in question might have done a fantastic job with the horse and it is now a reformed character. Stranger things have happened.

This is just my opinion, they may be absolutely fine. The only way to find out is to go and see for yourself and form your own opinion.

I think the grading system is a good idea for a first time buyer who might not understand the concept of picking the right horse. There are some good skills that can be used from natural horsemanship.I never went into it deeply but just using some of the practices helped my horse on the ground. If she wants to match the right person to the right horse then that can only be a good thing.I dont think she is insisting you use parelli there are lots of ways to develop a good bond and trust between you and your horse.Any horse that has had a good start is going to be easier to handle and it sounds like she has invested alot of effort and time into her horses.I would go and have a look good luck

Now. Ive never braught a horse, And never owned one. But in my opinion I would say she is trying too hard. She has somewhere on her website which says (Along theeese lines) I have been working with horses for 35 years so go with what you can handle. She's saying there fine for me, But if there a pain for you, Your unexperienced and its not her fault/.

I wouldnt buy off her tbh.

She looks like she does "La cense", which used to be linked to Parelli but they have been split for a while now. I don't know the ins and outs of la cense apart from their "teach yourself" books are reportedly easier to follow than Parelli's.

(ETS beg your pardon, just looked back and she does refer to parelli)

Like the concept of them being backed and brought on NH, and the few I have quickly browsed seem turned on not switched off like you see some Parelli'd horses.

I do think its a bit gimicky to sell them with a few bits of equipment and an hours lesson - "here you go, here's your ready made NH"- it takes a lot more than an hour of tuition to build a relationship with a horse, and there must be a very high risk of the horses getting really P'd off & switching off if they have been started by somebody who understands their body language and is consistent in their training, then getting an owner who is not.

Good concept, I like it, think it has some flaws to iron out first though, and the website looks relatively easy to navigate.

As for sitting down with the horse, I think she was probably perfectly safe is she was sensible and all was chilled, and if somethign did come out of nowhere and startle the horse, I'm sure in the time the horse could get its legs sorted and up she could be out of the way.

I have to say that her way of talking was... how to say....um offputting...theres doing things in a kind and natural way which I totally agree with but then there is something about the obsessiveness there...a bit cult like.... like the shot of the group of riders. Also I would worry that the horse would not cope when brought into a normal home life- ie. a busy livery yard where they have to be stabled for certain periods/individual turnout/how will it react when it does need shoing/having a bit and work correctly? Also the before and after piccie- all that shows is a skinny horse who is not well on gren pasture. Go and see the horses by all means, but I would be worried about the horses mental changes about 6 months down the line....
Nevertheless, you will know that your horse has not been rushed into anything/and she seems pretty honest...

I also live quite close to this person she has only had this site for the last 6 months or so. Well that,s when it was bought to my attention. I friend was interested in one of the horses she had for sale I will ask her if she went and what they were like. I'll also ask some people I know round that area and try to pm you when I've asked.

lovely website some nice hores but id rather buy my own from sales/private ad etc and work on the horse myself and form a bond in my own way.

I think it looks fab.I would certainly consider buying from her if I were looking for a horse. I started Parelli with my horse 4 years ago just after I got her and she had some sort of mental breakdown. She had trust and respect issues and was very frightened. She was like the horse that backed down ditches etc (never reared tho) Parelli was great for us as we learned together and developed a great bond. We still do play the games and I always feel that i have it as a tool to fall back on. I now have a normal horse who I can hack and is a general purpose type horse .Many people comment on her being a changed horse. I didn't mind paying for the kit and the information, I don't have a problem with people making money by sharing their knowledge. We all have a choice, you pay it or you don't.
Personally I am glad that I did.

You obviously had a good reason to start down that line chestnut_mare1 as you were having issues in which case of course any horse owner would (we hope) consider all of the different options to address the problem. What I was saying above is that I don't really want to overcomplicate tings any further my beginning a new line of thought and training if it isn't needed.

Anyway, this is really interesting and thank you to everyone who has replied! What a divide in opinion. I think you are all right in that the only way I would find out is to go and have a look around but I am glad you have pointed out some of the possible issues to me.

Flowerlady... yes it probably isn't longer than 6 months since I first saw it... seems like a long time to me

I would be really interested to hear what your friend thought if you do get chance to ask her.
