My 5 year old Irish cob mare has been unshod since I got her in October, (backs off then fronts off in November). To be honest It's like she hasn't even noticed the difference but she keeps getting tiny stones lodged in the white line of her front hooves. Can this be prevented?
She's out during the day on a field which looks to have no grass but her head is mostly down unless its miserable weather then she's stood by the gate. She gets a haynet at night and a token feed of fast fibre, spillers lite balancer and hifi molasses free morning and night.

Until the white line closes up really tight you will get small stones, do pick them out as they can work their way up the laminaee and cause endless problems. To get the white line to tighten you need to be doing some form of exercise on a hard surface e.g. Road and her feet will also trim up naturally on the road. Hand walking for 20mins is enough.

Thanks for your reply. Going out hacking on the roads for up to an hour or so which is where she's picking up these little stones! So wasn't sure whether to walk her on the soft for some time or not. Pick them out religiously as I find them! Thanks again.
