Can I do this? Horse clip question

My horse has a full clip, he needs clipping again. Last clip was 4 weeks ago and he is out suitably rugged 24/7 bar the night before hunting.

I am away for two weeks so he will not be going drag hunting but will be being ridden by a freelance groom (who often rides him).

I am conscious that the freelance groom if I do not clip is going to struggle to get him dry again after exercising before turning back out (we have hot water, thermatexs etc. But with a long coat it takes longer).

I do not really have the time before I go to do a full clip.

If I do a high trace clip and then full clip when I am back in a few weeks will it look awful?

In theory it should cut the same length and be fine but I’m worried il end up with a line down my horse for the entire winter! If there is a risk then I will have to make time to do a full clip even if it’s in the dark and poor lighting.

Also freelancer doesn’t clip as part of her jobs - that would be too easy.:p

Hell, everyone who knowsanything about clipping knows that horses sometimes have "Bad hair days"".Just learn to live with it. Editors note from Bob the notacob, You Lying b>>>>>>>> ,you told me no one would notice, I look like a lawn mower accident !

Haha I’ve clipped many horses and never had any look like a lawn mower… I’m trying to avoid that!!

I clipped professionally for many years, and I don't really like full clipping a horse who has had a trace/blanket previously, as I always find the coat a bit different where the hair was left on. I am mega picky though - the difference is pretty minimal!

One of my liveries clipped hearts all over her horse last year (mostly to horrify me, I think!) and clipped the horse out not long afterwards. I could see the shadow of those damned hearts for months after she was reclipped!!

I would either fully clip again and agree with others that I find this just as quick (slow!) as a trace/blanket or whatever as you don't need to bother about doing the lines which always take me some time (although I'm quite fussy!), or alternatively I would just do a quick bib clip now and fully clip again in December.

This was my fear! I’m going for the full clip, managed to do my food shop tonight to give me tomorrow morning, in the light to get it done.

I just put a breathable rug back on the wet horse and chuck it out. Could your rider just do that while you are away?
.

He needs galloping atleast twice when I’m away and in his current state would come back very sweaty and need a full bath. I don’t mind a modern rug on a partially wet horse but just even a well fitted rug must rub a little if they are soaking.

And I don’t want to pay her to hang around to let him dry off a little… like I would :p

Probably should add I’m a bit of a clipping perfectionist after a few years grooming for hunt yards where they were done regularly and had to be immaculate, often would do them the day before a meet and they had masters on board so had to look perfect.

Now with my own I like them pretty perfect if I can.
