Stupid question but can I feed my horse:

Sweed?
Brussel sprouts?
Cabbage?

I have too much veg and didnt want to throw it away! Can i feed it to him?!!?

I have fed them all and in fair size quantities with no ill effects at all...... but have heard that Brassicas (sp) (cabbage family) are not altogether good for neddies, but dont know why and would love to know.

its to do with the sulfurous compound in them (the ones that give us gas) - horses can't digest them very easily, and in too large a quantity may cause timpanic forms of colic (i.e bad trapped wind!)

but otherwise ok in small quantities.

Hanging swede on a peice of string is a good tactic to beat bordom in the stable. most horses love swede.

Not sure about the other two, but if he/she will eat it i would imagine its ok.

I had a pony who love parsnips!!! she eat them before he dinner, carrots, swede anything!

Sorry to butt in, but how do you get the hole in the middle of the swede? I have tried so many times with a knife with no joy

Baron just ends up getting his whole, supervised obviously.
