Hello,
Am possibly thinking of getting a pony to have over winter to enable my horse to live out this winter as se willl not live out without company..
Had an idea of getting a smaller pony ideally registered m&m to have alay withand hopefully sell in spring/early summer.
Would i be best prvate sale or sales? Ideally unbroken 3y/o, handled

Yeah certainly do-able...just change the specification on the searches for under say £600 and set your preferences and have a look round :)

Where abouts are you looking for :)

Pop along to the Welsh Pony & Cob sales that Brightwells will run this Autumn at Hay on Wye and Builth - I would think that you would pick up a nicely bred youngster for that price.

I know someone who has a lovely 3 y/o unbroken but also not handled filly and she is selling very cheap as she is reducing stock. Kept in Iver.

i was going to suggest this. Or phone some studs.

Better still, why dont you loan one from a welfare centre? Unless you do alot of work with a pony the cost of keeping it will be equal or more than any money you may make on re-sale. So a rescue pony might be worth considering

Yeah defo try the sales, my local had nice types going though for £400ish, they seemed sound and honest enough

Hi,
Thanks for the reply's, might try york sales as in the north east.
I wonder how considerably cheaper things will be in sept time?
Liz

Why not advertise for a companion in the field to live out? By the time you've paid for feed etc you will not make hardly anything and you could be stuck with it if you don't really want to keep it after spring. Just a thought or have a companion from one of the charities?:D

Thanks for the reply's, I often look at the catlogues after sales and there always seems a lot withdrawn, not forward or not sold. Do a lot get sold out of the ring? Also is the warranty any use?

I think alot seem to get sold out of the ring in the car park area ours did, alot did go through the ring this time friend sold a nice pony for 190 :( went to what seemed to be a nice family.

Cheers for the reply :)
Just been looking at the results, seems a mixed bag. There still seeems a llot not forward or withdrawn. I assume you aren't allowed to buy in car park, do normal people do this and not just dealers?

depending on wher u live. there is a sale in south wales, llanybydder THIS thursday. they have loads of small ponies suitable for children/riding/companions ect and considering the trade this year youl get a decent pony for pennies..... you should go and have a look. im going there, i go there every month. x

Wales is a bit of a trek, especially since I cn't drive the trailer and have to beg lifts!
Looks like it's easily possible!
