I would ask your friends to take out rider insurance or become a BHS Gold member. It's a small ask in exchange for their riding and your peace of mind.

Sounds reasonably similar to a share. Normally I think people (like me) just have their own rider insurance.

Suggest BHS gold membership.

My friend has her horse insured for "any rider" I think...

as far as my insurance company are concerned (NFU) as long as they have my permission to ride the horse they are covered on my own insurance for what I am covered for.

I contacted BHS only this week as I have gold membership but my daughter rides the horses. They said that if she is riding with my permission then she will be covered for public liability. I presume it would be the same with your friend.

I have a rider plan with PetPlan (I think!)
it basically means I'm covered for any horse I ride; that includes my share horse, her owners' other horse, friend's horses etc all of whom I ride regularly.
Worth its weight in gold - you never know what's going to happen, it could be something so minor as a horse spooking, kicking out and damaging fence panels or a car to accidents and injuries both to horse and rider.
