Can I give my haffie a hunter clip if he is out 24/7?

The kids haffie gets very sweaty even with light work and we really want to keep him fit this winter. We would like your opinions on turn out for a hunter clipped horse and if it is possible to turn out 24/7 which is what he prefers. Obviously he will be rugged and under blankets etc when needed, no shelter but thick woods surround the fields which are not exposed and loads of grazing and ad lib hay to keep him warm. He is kept at home so can pop out and check if the weather changes etc...anyone else hunter clip 24/7 turned out horses? Also worth noting he is a very good doer as all haffies seem to be!
 
My haffy had a hunter clip last year and lived out rugged no problems, this year I couldnt face doing so much so she jst has a chaser type clip :) Your haffy if rugged will be fine, but I do find that even clipped mine doesn't need too many layers and stays very warm.
 
I dont see a problem with hunter clipped horses been kept out as long as there rugged and if nessary hayed/fed properly.
I do think though they should either have at least half heads if not there whole heads kept on. People i know dont but i just feel its kinder to keep there ears hairy.:);)
 
They are built for the mountains! My haffy sweats loads too (she has a substantial layer of fat of course) so may consider clipping but only a bit. I agree about starting with a blanket clip first but as long as he's got his legs protected.
 
I could try him with a blanket first but he is very sweaty! It is actually making it quite difficult to do anything with him at the mo...10 mins of schooling and he looks like hes been out hunting for the day
 
My haffy has had a hunter clip in the past & lived out (most of the year) & he coped fine. He is clipped now, but he hasn't had a hunter clip this time.
 
Worth saying his legs and face will only be getting a tidy...no trimming, Im not that accurate! Glad to see wimpy TBs cope as mine is next on the list...ive bought the clippers and damn it Im getting my monies worth;)

Mine was sweating today and that was with her neck clipped (and she is quite fit), I was thinking of taking the rest off. I still might. :)
 
My TB is hunter clipped and has lived out for the past two winters like this. He has natural shelter, a wardrobe Victoria Beckham would be proud of and plenty of food and he copes just fine :D

Sure your haffie will be just fine ;)
 
My cob lives out and had a hunter clip last year. I left the hair on her face and legs, she is also 'well covered'. The thickest rug she required was 200g!
 
All mine live out fully clipped aside from legs and half face, heaviest rugs they wear are 200g with perhaps a liner if it is -20 and horizontal rain which lets be fair isn't that often in this country!
