can i have a cc of my girlie/showing welsh d

hadfos,

I will post a pic of franks dad, you will be surprised! he did not inherit his back

I am not sure if inhand welshies are like inhand arabs, ie not quite the ridden type!

A sway back is quite typically welsh.

My instructor's old D that she showed at HOYS had a hell of a sway back and he was still being ridden (and ocassionally used in a riding school) up until he was about 25.

Interestingly, Genie does better ridden than she does in hand.

Reason i ask....forgive me if i am wrong as i havnt had alot of dealings with welshies, but she looks more like a shire/clyde cross??lovely all the same just what i see!

[/ QUOTE ]

I was thinking the same!!!!

again lovely horse

there's a lot of variety in welshie heads. This is my youngster showing the dished, pretty head:

this is my old boy - much longer nose - huge, wide noseband shows it off best but it's much plainer

leggy welshie:

seriously solid Welsh:

got the flicky-toed dressage look sorted:

neither of them are county show Welshies as they dont have the huge Welsh trot. They've both won at local level though.

lol at 'seriously solid'

lovely to see more pics of them both though star, I love both of them even though they are different.

The welshie owners and lovers are out in force tonight!!!
laugh.gif

Star, I love both your boys but must admit I prefer Dan to Llewi... chunky D's are my faves.

Have to say i prefer the staighter back guys
grin.gif

Guess i will never be showing welshies, lol
grin.gif

They are stunning but i just dont like the back thing, some are ok,but looking at the top class welshie showing their backs are unbelievably swayed
frown.gif

Not starting a debate, would just like to hear what others have to say??but seems like they have gone the way of dog showing,or other way round??That what was a feature has been bred for showing purposes and therefore over many many yrs has made them weaker through their backs??Just how i look at it,others may shed some light??
smile.gif
As i have said over and over i love my TB's and have seen what yrs of inappropriate breeding has done to them, flat horses more so
smile.gif

Am just curious is all
smile.gif

he is darker than i would have thought from your sig too.

love him though (love llewi too cos he is chestnut- am not fickle honest!)

your boy's are so different!!! I wouldn't take too much notice of the huge welsh trot - look carefully most move in front but don't track up behind.....Only a select few can REALLY move properly.

Genie's got a bit of a sway back... just doesn't show so much under saddle!

Have seen some mares at Royal Welsh etc with MAJOR sway backs.

the dippy backs is an in-hand stallion thing.

awww i see
smile.gif
is it passed down to youngstock though,or does the mare you use counteract it??Or is it the way they are shown from a very early age that makes them hold themselves like that???told you i was curious, and know nothing about them, lol

I agree - inhand welshies tend to be different from those bred for the ridden job...you don't see many sucessful inhand youngsters go on into ridden careers, the inhands tend to be pushed to look mature very early - I have been in yearling classes where the other entries look like 4 year olds.......not for me, i prefer a nice riding cob to a thing on a string with no where to put a saddle any day!!

genie does NOT have a sway back

these are a couple of the stallions from my boys pedigree that I really like

erm, that's no sway back. that's a normal back! too flat is as much as a fault as too dippy.

fihunt and I have decided its their balls which pull their backs down!

like lilym, watching the 3yo colts they look very very mature at the royal welsh, I assumed it was poss senior stallion class!

I do think the are a bit like ridden/inhand arabs, diff types, I have no pics of franks mum to see if she cancelled out ambers back. am not sure it is because of how they muscle, doing the cob trot, head up back low sort of think, rather than working over their backs. And as we all work ours over their backs to do dressage and alike they all look normal!

Can somebody please tell my saddler she doesn't have a sway back then?
laugh.gif

It's def got to be their boy bits... I won't tell you what Ester said about Frank though!!!

god knows what your saddler would think of my chestnut boy's back then if yours is meant to be sway. And still, my boy's isn't either - he just happens to have withers which is fairly unusual in a cob.

*wonders if ester actually WANTS to come and ride the baby one*

I'll take your opinion over my saddler's anyday star! He's an excellent saddler, but I was surprised when he said she had a slightly sway back!

I think that is the problem - my boy did some inhand before i had him and as a result had a very high head carriage - which i am still working on to get him longer, lower and swinging through his back, rather than hollowing and putting his neck up and pushing his head to his chest, he also tends to kink to the left where the handlers hold the head towards them to stop them tanking off into the distance!!

I think you have answered all my questions
smile.gif
,they are shown to show off their breeding qualities...which in turn leads to quality youngstock, but the fact that that youngstock has been broken to ride for, ridden showing, dressage, jumping etc imediately changes the way they use their backs
smile.gif

Thanx for answering my questions guys appreciate it and i understand a lot more now about a breed i knew nothing about
smile.gif

Ellie has Hendy Brenin in her lineage too
laugh.gif
While Bella has the Parc lines. I'm hoping she makes an all rounder

Photo-0006.jpg

In no rush though as she is only 11 months old

we try, although not all of our theories are entirely accurate.

I have heard of left kink issues before lilym
