Can I have a little bit of a moan please? About ready to jack it in!

Try to think about what you have rather than what you don't or what's stopping you from competing. I know its frustrating but I'm sure you rather have your horses (even if you can't get out to play) than not have them there at all...I mean what would you do with all that spare time, spare cash flow and less stress in your life? *grins*

Your time will come, just be patient and enjoy what you have :)

....I keep telling myself that! lol

I agree with above

I had to wait until i was 35 before i got a trailer and 4WD - you will achieve that if you want it enough. But there are plenty of things you can do to make sure you will be as competitive as you possibliy can be when you do get out there. In the meantime, hire some one to take you to 2-3 events that you can't bear not to attend. Or find a boyfriend with 4WD and borrow a trailer.

I feel your pain !!!

i had that feeling for several years....so i managed to pay for my trailer test passed last week WAHOOOO

but have got myself into debt getting a 4x4 on finance (im lucky enough to have free use of my grandads trailer)

hope things work out :(

I fully sympathise with you :( I've never had wheels and it's incredibly frustrating.

Also, money that we've been expecting beginning of next year to buy a box (and a new horse for my mother) now may be massively delayed so that plan may have gone a bit pete tong...

Very frustrating :( Especially as it meant I never enjoyed Be as much as I'd hoped before she had to retire. I'm determined not to have the same happen with Charlie.

Suprised Malibu_stacy hasn't jumped on this post! If you ever want to share hire of a box I can pretty much guarantee she'll be up for it! She's spent the last year moaning about the fact that are 4 boxes at Beck Brook and no one goes out >( (I would also offer, but me and ponio are currently in the same situation as you, but the wrong end of the country! )

PS I was perving on your horses the other day when I was stuck in traffic on the A14 :D

I am afraid I am not going to yell either. I feel your pain re lack of transport, I had the money saved and was looking around for something then OH Disco did something really expensive to its engine (I am not technically minded!) and there went my trailer money! And I don't want to compete just take them to the beach or into the lakes where there is some excellent forest hacking. Maybe a bit of showing of Fany. Still no Disco, no trailer any way so buggered if I did and buggered if I didn't!

Jess, I have an old lorry AND my horse won't go on the blxxxy thing!!!!! Well, not without a helluva fight, and that totally destroys my joy in going out and about with him, something that I dearly want to do. So even when you have wheels, doesn't always mean you can go off and do!!

What a sorry lot we are! Those who live near me, I promise that when I do finally sort myself out I will take you with me!

Puppy, sorry to hear that. As someone in the same boat I can feel your pain!

V, What were they doing? You must have strange taste if you think my horses are worth perving over! :D

Naughty boy! BH didn't used to load which meant I couldn't even get lifts but for some reason he has given that one up now. Don't give up. If the knobber can learn yours can too!

haha, nothing exciting, just munching away, was more exciting than watching the car in front of me at a standstill though!

I have use of a nice little horse box - mare wouldn't go in the box. Had various people help me got her going in the box fine. Then she went lame...! She is now sound but has a foal at foot....

I also agree with above .... when I finally did get a trailer, it took 18 months to have my fellow cmfortable with floating. I did not spend every day or even week on it..but i did have to spend a good amount of time. Now he is a good boy even if a year between floating/transporting.

May I please join the collective whinge with cookies?

This must be my and margerita11’s favourite moan :( I came from a yard 18 months ago which was slap bang next to a big RC with a rammed schedule and excellent BE facilities, and by God did I not realise how much the transport void would grate when I got new boy! Margerita11 and I have now both got new boys this year and mine’s only five so the issue’s really been hitting home lately :o I should really do what my vet says and not put the pressure on myself because that doesn't help.

There are four trailers on our yard – three which go out and a lovely, relatively new Ifor that has sat there literally since the livery arrived. M and I are a bit lucky in that sometimes we’re offered or can beg a lift off a couple of people. One of our friends is amazing enough to have happily lugged us about at 6:30am on a Saturday morning recently just so we could go to a WT test - so we are very grateful for that. The trouble is that neither of us really like asking or relying on others and obviously can’t be doing so very regularly!

We thought we’d cracked it with my OH’s company vehicle (he had a Navara) as his lease was due to be renewed last month and we have permission to borrow a trailer and take ourselves out, but now OH’s company have given him a rental while they sort the new policy out and it’s not looking hopeful at all :( Hopefully next year, one of us will manage to pull something together (or my amazing back up plan of winning that Equitrek from Your Horse will work…). I’m supposed to be buying a house next year and have footed the idea of buying a decent Oakley and just living in that but strangely it hasn’t been met with approval…

Onwards and upwards, I guess. Sorry for not being able to add anything constructive and for the length of this; it’s just nice to be able to moan with others in the same boat.

I have a very old trailer and 4x4 that I am doing my best to keep in working and safe order, it's not cheap.

I always try and give lifts to people when I take my daughter and her horse anywhere because I know it is enjoyable for people to take their horses out and it's nice for us too to have a friend along. I have also been known to let people borrow both 4x4 and trailer if we are not using it.

One thing to bear in mind is that it is surprisingly more expensive to tow 2 horses than it is 1 so this might be why people are reticent to offer lifts in some cases. When giving lifts I seldom pass the true cost on to my passenger because I am going to the venue anyway, my daughter has invited them to join us so it seems a little unfair to do that but I do ask for a contribution. I've been lucky that all of the people who have had lifts/used my set up are nice and don't take advantage and it's been a pleasure to share the day with them so it's all good and I wouldn't stop doing it.

I did have one girl who asked me to pick up a horse which was 1.5 hours away, got there, horse had colic so couldn't come with us (thank God it happened before we got it loaded) , turned around and went home, and she never even offered a token £5 for diesel. The journey did take longer because I won't go on the motorway and I got lost on the way home so I wouldn't have expected her to pay a lot but it would have been nice to be offered something ... she does like to say her family are well heeled, guess you can see how they got that way :D

Just to add that we always give diesel money and get the sandwiches and drinks in when we're there :o It's a shame that some don't - it's not really a rocket-science level of manners.

Feel your pain! I'm absolutely desparate to get my youngster out and about for a bit of experience but have no transport.

Sold OH's car and bought a 4x4 very excited as we had the offer of borrowing a trailer from a friend who has a trailer and no tow vehicle then the new car broke and spent a month sitting on the drive until the garage agreed to take it back. So now we don't just have no transport for the horse we have no transport for the OH so he can't even hack out during the week.....

Absolutely gutting.

Have a friend willing to let us use her trailer but nothing between us to tow it with, and no one else on the yard wants to do the same sort of stuff or if they do they either don't have space for another or are already set up with someone to share with.

I'd be happy to pay diesel, or buy lunch or a bottle or do a favour in return or whatever the driver wanted just to get out to a low key dressage or fun ride or newcomers day at the hunt or even just for a hack.....

:(

Maybe we need an HHO lift share sticky.....

I know you're all going to groan but i've got a trailer and landy and i'm too nervous to go anywhere ( not towed horse before ) so i feel guilty every time i walk through the yard and watch it going green..:(

I can solve that problem for you, I will have it, or you can store it with me so you don't have to look at it and feel guilty:D:rolleyes:
