I've just realised that we've had Bruno for nearly 7 years and what a long way he's come.
When we first rescued him he was an aggressive little sod who acted all brave and he really wasn't. He was terrified. He was so stressed out he used to give himself bald patches, attack anyone and anything who came near him, couldn't get a collar on him and taking him for walks was virtually impossible. He was nearly put down because of his aggression.
7 years on, he is the sweetest little thing. He adores children, any body can come in the house and he will just cover them in hair and slobber and wants to be your new friend. You can put food in his bowl without fear of losing your fingers (we used to just throw his kibble on the floor) and sits there for you to change his collar or just when you take it off to give him a scratch.
He can go for walks which he mostly enjoys but he still finds it a bit stressful but we just pick our moments now. He still pulls but it's manageable and he isn't dragging you down the street anymore. He even now tolerates certain dogs and can be around them. Still hates cats.
He's proved himself very useful for ratting and mousing but the biggest turn around was finding out he will do anything for a ball. So if I can feel he's going to get stressed out, magically produce a ball and all is forgotten. He is a happy, clever little dog who isn't scared 99% of the time anymore.
He's still trouble and has selective deafness and if he does escape, will come home rather than hiding in a bush!
So Bruno, you're a wonderful, funny little dog who has come good. Please continue kissing everyone to death and stealing biscuits from pets at home!
